I never really thought much about Cabe and Happy before 3.12, but I just love how their friendship was explored in that episode. The part where Cabe gave Happy his mother's brooch was so sweet. You could tell that although Happy doesn't go in for jewelry at all - and the brooch looked a bit old-ladyish - she really meant what she said. She loves everything that gesture represents and she'll be wearing that brooch proudly when she marries Toby.

I'm torn. I sort of want Patrick Quinn to walk his daughter down the aisle, but I also want Cabe to do it.

I don't dislike Patrick. But mostly, I think Happy wants so badly to have a real relationship with her dad, that I think it would mean a lot to her.

I don't know what bothers me so much about him, but I just don't like him. Maybe I just want Cabe to be the father figure for all the geniuses so I resent other father types in their lives.

For all he had reasons - and in some ways very good ones - he still abandoned his daughter. That's a hard thing to get past or forgive.

I think it's easy to see that Cabe would never do something like that. Not to his biological child or any of his Scorpion "children".

Cabe has demonstrated again and again that he would literally take a bullet for any of his "kids". And never leave any of them behind!

They sort of fit into the missing slots in each other's lives. Happy helps to fill the void that the loss of Cabe's daughter created for him, and even though she has reunited with Patrick, Cabe is a father figure that Happy feels she can trust - she's seen him come through for the team time and again, and never desert them. I don't think she'll ever really be able to feel quite that way about Patrick.

I think Cabe sees both Paige and Happy as surrogate daughters, and as much as he admires Paige, I think he has a real affection for Happy because he knows she's basically had to fend for herself her entire life. I think he's one of the few people that can really see underneath her armor and knows how much she genuinely cares for people. I also think he understands her need for family - possibly better even than Toby - because it's a feeling he shares.

Not related to this thread, but if that was his reason for naturally feeling affectionate to Happy, I wonder if he will start feeling similarly about Paige now that he knows that she also had to overcome some similar stuff.

And yeah, I think Cabe understands that part of Happy more than anyone else.
