No, it's most definitely a thing. I've kinda accepted that we're being monitored most of the time but I try to take at least a few simple measures, like covering my laptop's camera with a sticker when I'm not using it

yup, i have been putting stickers on the laptop cameras for several years now, too. someone told me a while back that hackers and viruses can turn on the webcam and look at you, without the blue/red/power light being on.

yikes! also, none of my 3 laptops over the years have ever had voice functions, but that voice recognition microphone is technically a two-way communication channel because of stuff like Skype, so yes hackers (and the gov't) could eavesdrop on your privacy. ugh. when i finally get a modern laptop, i'm covering everything lol

my laptop now is a 2004 Panasonic Toughbook, still works with XP and has a partition running early windows 7. it's a beast lol.

Mine is a Sony Vaio 2010, it almost died on me twice but luckily it was an easy fix. I was researching laptops to decide which one to buy (when I thought it'd be too expensive therefore not worth it to get mine fixed) and none of them won me over so I'm glad I got to keep my current one
