| Elite Fan | While we're talking computers...can you tell me about how much RAM XP pulls on idle? At this point I'm seriously considering wiping this machine and going to XP Pro. But if I remember correctly XP has a 4 gig RAM limit, so with 6gigs now I'll be wasting 2. | Elite Fan | It's not so much a limit of XP, but a limit of 32 bit OS's, xp and vista included, which max memory around 3.2 Gig. | Elite Fan | Not a clue. I'm a little dusty on my OS stuff. I think the only things I'd really lose going 32-bit would be the RAM. On a side note, last week I took it upon myself to set my paging file to the "recommended" 9200mb. Vista does not like that. Unbelievable lag. I'm talking 1 hour plus just to shut down. | Elite Fan | Thats Vistas recommended size. Says so right there in the control box. I'm using 2.5gigs right now. And this is normal for me. While I was chatting (once again) with HP tech support, they insisted that I run a full virus scan before they would even consider other solutions to my lag problems. And of course, with my luck, I found a trojan. And of course, by the time the scan had completed, all the lag was gone.
