She made all these promises about raises and less chaos an all this crap. She knows there're only 3 people there (myself included) that keep that place running.

Anything within 40 miles of me. The tyrant laid off 2 more people after I went home yesterday, including my gf. All I told her was "congrats, you escaped".

Laid off is kinda like fired, but usually you get additional pay, known as severence.

Depends on where you work. My job has no benefits beyond a week vacation and health insurance. The boss says "laid off" but everyone there knows she's just firing people.

yeah, that's the only difference. If you get some sort of continued benefits, it's laid off. Some companies do little (i.e. Crash's company) and some do a lot (more than others at least) like my wife's company, who are giving everyone 60 days on the payroll, and then 1 week for every year worked, minimum of 4 weeks, plus health.
