Boy did the people closest to him misread who he really was? or did he drastically change? I think it was a little of both, he was always a time bomb waiting to go off but he seemed so mild mannered so no one really saw it coming

I would think part of it would always have to be there. It's actually odd that he settled for the job he had and also with having everyone underestimate him and just ignoring it because it seems to really piss him off when he's not the best at something. Or when people get credit for his work

I think the cancer diagnosis just kind of made him snap and be the person he really wanted to be even though he suppressed that part of himself when he left Grey Matter and settled down with Skyler. Yeah the dude was always in there but he kept that part of him tucked away until he knew there was nothing to hold him back.
