I never heard of elderflower. Is it an actual flower put in the drink?

It is a flower. It grows on bushes around here. You can make wine from elderflowers and from elderberries. I've not seen it added to a cider before, but I think both the flowers and berries can be used a variety of recipes.

Yes. Elderflower wine is a white wine and has a distinctive taste, and I'm not very fond of it myself. Elderberry wine is a red. I think they work better added to other things than on their own, though. Added to jam, made into a cordial or gin, even.

Ah. Well I had a father who made his own beer and wine, so had long walks picking the stuff and then had to spend ages pulling berries off with a fork.

Other times we'd pick sloes or wild plums too.
You can buy commercial versions according to Google.

The funny thing about this elderflower post is that on the same day I read in my current book a scene where the main girl drinks elderflower wine. She's in England, so maybe it's an English thing?
