The title made me open the thread because myth caught my eye. I haven't followed this project and thought it was just a sea voyage, but Moby Dick?!

Yep! The whole Moby Dick novel was inspired to Melville by his own experience on a whaler, and by true stories such as the one about the sinking of the Essex - the story told in this movie.
This film has Ben Whishaw playing Herman Melville. __________________
