Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is an older XBox game but it is a huge RPG. It's kind of in the same realm as Baldur's Gate and stuff but you only control one character and you can basically do anything. It's huge.

I want the GameCube for 4 games, I think. It's sad.

I know gamecube is suposed to appeal to younger kids, but come on..they need to have some games for older people, since now days most people playing video games are in their teens..

Johnnie would more than likely agree with me, even if he'd never say it..lol

It just seems like Nintendo is focusing on different things than what Sony and Microsoft are and it looks like it is hurting them.

I found out last night that Gran Turismo IV will not have online play. How sad is that?

This just in: You cannot buy The Guy Game anymore. Apparently one of the girls in the game was underage when the footage that was shot of her was taken. She's sueing the company. LOL Here's an article for those interested.

Final Fantasy Creator to Work With Microsoft
Hironobu Sakaguchi to deliver RPGs for Xbox 2.

By Christian Nutt

Today, Microsoft has announced that Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, will create two RPGs for its next generation platform, the Xbox 2 (aka Xenon).
Sakaguchi, who left Square Enix last July to form his own independent studio, Mist Walker, had already revealed that his company is working on a Nintendo DS title. Now, Sakaguchi and his new enterprise will collaborate with Microsoft Game Studios in Japan to provide two as-of-yet untitled RPGs for the next-generation Xbox that's unofficially scheduled for release late this year.

"Microsoft's cutting-edge technologies in the next-generation platform will allow me to bring to life an array of ideas that I have had for many years," Sakaguchi said. "I want these games to be alive with a new vision for gaming and vividly depict new characters that will transcend the game, find a place in the hearts of gamers, and make time spent with my games a fond and long-lasting memory."

We spoke with Peter Moore, vice-president of marketing for Xbox International at Microsoft, about how the development relationship was established. "This is the result of 10 months of negotiations back and forth between myself and Sakaguchi," Moore explained. "We met in Japan, we met [in Redmond], and we even met up in Maui while I was there on vacation last year. We've spent a lot of time discussing exactly what we feel next generation gaming should be."

While Mist Walker's impressive pedigree certainly has our attention, this partnership for Microsoft has similar undertones as the company's 2002 acquisition of Nintendo's second-party darlings, Rare. Scoring exclusive titles with Mist Walker is a message to the industry that with their next Xbox platform, Microsoft is serious about courting Japanese developers and gamers. "Sakaguchi's role extends beyond working on the games -- he's also helping us with the positioning of the new platform in the Japanese market, and making sure that we're adequately resourced to deliver on everything we need in that market."

When asked whether Microsoft needs to succeed in the Japanese market with Xbox next generation, Moore's answer was a resounding yes. "The Japanese market is so important for us. You can look at it and describe it as being a market in decline and that it's less important globally, but I disagree. It's still the cradle of our industry, and despite being challenged in more recent years by the EA's, the Activision's, and the Take Two's, some of the greatest development talent in the world is still there."

Furthermore, Microsoft hopes that signing an industry veteran like Sakaguchi will encourage other Japanese developers to follow suit overseas. "His role extends beyond working on the games -- Sakaguchi is helping guide us to build content that's relevant to the cultural lifestyle of Japanese gamers," Moore said. "None of our previous games in the territory (like Magatama or Phantom Dust) have had impact, and we've not enjoyed as much success as we would like in bringing Western games into Japan. Japanese gamers are often loyal to the system that has a particular game or franchise that they feel passionate about. The RPG is a genre, more than any other, that can serve that purpose for us."

When asked specifically about Mist Walker's two RPG titles themselves, Moore was less forthcoming -- simply because both games are still in very early phases of development. "The games will have a Live element, but that's not to say they'll have any multiplayer features. They'll be Live Aware, as will all next generation Xbox games, but the decisions about multiplayer gameplay just don't need to be made yet. What's most important is that we won't force any gameplay ideas. The games will be what they need to be."

In terms of release dates, you can rest assured these games are most likely 2006 and beyond titles. What we do know is that Sakaguchi and Mist Walker have not sold their souls (well, at least not all of it) to Microsoft. "Sakaguchi's relationship with us is for the duration of these two titles, and while he isn't an employee of Microsoft Game Studios Japan, our arrangement with him is exclusive for the next generation platforms. You can think of him as being under contract with us -- I guess -- for want of a better term."

Nintendo to Launch New Handheld in 2005?
CNN Money predicts $99 price point

By Che Chou

With Nintendo's rumored next-generation system (code named "Revolution") still at least a year away, the company is allegedly preparing to take on Sony's PSP with a new $99 version of their popular Game Boy handheld, to be released by the end of year. This speculation from CNN Money comes as the industry anticipates a major Nintendo announcement at this year's Game Developer Conference, to be held March 10, in San Francisco.
Other rumors surrounding Nintendo's profitable handheld business include the possibility that the company's "third pillar," the Nintendo DS, will see an aggressive focus on PDA-like capabilities and even run on Palm OS. The rationale is that this would keep the two handheld systems -- the DS and the new Game Boy -- from cannibalizing each other in the retail market.

Still unclear is whether this new Game Boy is indeed the successor to Nintendo's Game Boy Advance with next-generation features, or just another minor step in the evolution. One thing is for sure: Sony's PSP is an unprecedented forcing of Nintendo's hand in the portable gaming market, with the strong potential of breaking the company's long handheld dominance.

The question we're asking ourselves is -- what could Nintendo be thinking?

Nintendo needs to do something. From what I've read the PSP's game lineup is much better than the DS's. I just want the GBA's prices to really drop so I can buy one for everyone in the family.

Bad thing about gaming is trying to keep up with the technology. I'm glad I'm not a pc gamer.

My computer is too slow for PC games, so I usually play more online games or occasionally....video games.

I'm glad I'm not a PC gamer as well--my laptop is only 2 years old and I can't play any PC games on it! I just found out that there was a recall on my Xbox power cord (and on all power cords for Xboxs made before 2003), so I'm annoyed enough that I have to deal with that!
