Mortal Kombat series discussion thread

I have been playing MK since the original was released in game arcades in Australia in 1993, my favourite MK games are still MK2 and MK3!

I loved (still do to this day!) the films and tv series (not the cartoon though...ewww) The latest webisodes on YT are absolutely amazing - if you go and watch them you will be shocked at how gritty this could be if they did a remake of the films this way!

Playlist for the MK Legacy series - season 1 and season 2!

I own MK, MK2, MK3 MK4 MK5 and MK9. Might get the new one eventually for the XB1 in a few months.

The animated TV show was definitely an LOL moment. I, too loved the movies and games so much. It defined such a big part of my childhood. How censored were these games for you in Australia?

I'm beyond excited for MK X next week! I have it digitally on PS4 so I can download it on Sunday and play it right at midnight Tuesday night!

MK9 (the one a couple of years ago) was actually not censored - it was BANNED outright! I bought it online but due to it being banned here, I could not play online with it against anyone or get DLC or do leaderboard updates or ANYthing that required 'online' capabilities...

The first one I played was on SNES. I think it was 5. I also have 9 for ps3. I will wait for the new one. Don't feel like paying full price for it.

So far, all of the console ports pale in gameplay compared to playing them on an arcade machine with the joystick and mashing buttons! You can buy controllers that are identical to old arcade machines with a joystick etc and they work perfectly!

I first played MK on arcade game machines where you put coins into it, then on the snes then the PS2 then the XBOX360.

Being banned is almost worse than censor.

The arcade sticks and game pads are still there and they have a newly designed controller for X1 and PS4 specifically for MKX. It looks cool:

But as you see, it's not a stick, but a pad. I'd get it if it weren't 60. I'd happily pay 30 for that.

This is more like it!

But, that actual stick on this is crap... Need the ball one they have better response time and last longer without sticking!

Lots of those were brought back to Gamestop for defective reasons

The sticks on that are the ones that are utter garbage - the buttons are also sub par - but you can easily buy high-end ones and screw them in place - that is what my brother did! He also has a few real arcade machines with heaps of spare parts so it was easy for him to do, the difference was night and day! I remember those sort of sticks back in the day in video game arcades and they sucked back then too! The ones with a ball on the top were way better...

The best fightpad I've seen recently came with Street Fighter IV a few years ago. That one knew how to do it!

Any of these pads work well enough to use so long as they do not have the sticks in the above picture. It just depends on button layout preferences. SF and KoF vs Tekken vs MK are quite different layouts... Some pads have easily customisable buttons.

I still can't wait for the game. Even on my normal controller, it's going to be fun as heck!

Apparently they have made special moves much easier than the older games which were near impossible to do complex moves with a controller...

I wonder how difficult the fatalities will be. It'd be nice if they had one simple one for each character and then a complex couple.
