Games Weekly Poll: 8/2 - 8/8

Have you ever modded a console to play burned games or imported games from other regions? (Modded is slang for adding a modifying chip that allows a console so that it can play imported games from other regions of the world and plays burned copies of games for that console.)

A) Yes, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
B) No, modding a console can void the warranty and it could possibly kill your console one way or another.
C) I have considered it but never did it.
D) I can play burned games and imported games on my console without modding it which means it will not die prematurely. (EG: PS2 = SwapMagic and Wii = TwilightHack.)
E) What is 'modding'?

C) for me but I do sometimes use SwapMagic for my PS2 (before its Disc motor died on me...) to play banned games that I can not play in Oz due to stupid Games laws that are way behind the times. So D) also applies to me.

It is hard for me to translate the date for we use day/month/year here so when I adjust the date on this thread to me it looked like: 8th of February - 8th of August...

Did yours have issues?

The reasons why I never modded mine were for the PSX: The chips were new technology, never been done before on any console at the time and they burned out the circuitry within a few short months, the audio was crackly and the colour was non-existant - it was Black & White! So I refuced to mod my old PSX but I could still play other region games for my PSX is the original version where you can do the 'pressing button' trick on the boot up and quickly swap my region game with imported.

The PS2 I also did not want to for it would have ruined my warranty.

Xbox 360 would be nice to mod but there are 'updates' whenever you play a game and it updates any game issues such as bugs but it also checks if your console is 'modded' if it detects it is it can stop it working or at least, block your 360 from online gaming.

Wii I do not want to mod for it can burn out the Motherboard as all of the mod chips could do. But the 'Twilight Hack' is a simple and carefree way around it - so long as you do not update the firmware past 3.2...EVER! So no online gaming at all.

So no, I probably will never modify any of my consoles - far too risky for my liking. There are so many different chips for each console that each have their own set of limitations and risks attached...

A. My old PSX is still moded, not the internal type but the external mod chip kind. It was a lot easier for me to download the games and burn them then try to get them. Mostly with older RPGs that are rare and way too expensive. Suikoden is still hard to buy at a decent price
