3x05 'Freedom and Whiskey'
{AIRS: 8th October, 2017}

As Brianna grapples with the life-changing revelations of the past summer, Claire must help
her come to terms with the fact that she is truly her father's daughter – her 18th century
Highlander father. To complicate matters further, Roger brings news that forces Claire and
Brianna to face an impossible choice.

it hasn't aired yet?

I was glad they they actually met at the end of the episode. I was a little afraid that there were going to keep dragging it out for another episode and was happy that they just cut right to it.

I'm a little confused at her dying her hair...I mean, I know she wants to look good when Jamie first sees her. But she realizes that is going to grow out right away right, lol?! ;)

I still don't care for Brianna's character/actress. I just find her kind of bland and she doesn't draw me in at all. I do like Roger though.

I watched this yesterday, will post my thoughts later

wickedrum 10-09-2017 05:21 AM

The point to Claire dying her hair is so that Caitriona doesn't have to dye it grey :D

Most boring episode to date, I skipped a lot! I can't care for either Brianna, nor Roger. I imagined him differently, I don't think the casting's right.

Sorry, I missed this. I created the thread last minute last night so it was a bit of a mess. That was my bad.

I guess for me it's relative. I find Brianna even worse, so Roger seems not too bad by comparison. But then when I think of someone who has had an even smaller role than him, like John Grey..then I realize that the right actor can really capture your attention right away (or even the first episode I saw Jamie or Claire, etc).

Clearly the best episode of the season for me! I didn't even mind Bree and Roger that much. Also the last five minutes, I was shaking and crying and laughing at the same time basically. Finally they are reunited and I cannot wait for the next episode :thud:

exactly. John Grey makes me excited, Roger is just blah.

I don't know,I kind of liked Brianna. Her struggles were real and she was coping with the loss of her father. Then she finds out that she has a different father-That's a lot to take. It sucks that Jamie will never know her, though. She dropped out of school and she was going to move out. There was no reason to stay and they could have been a family. Yes,Roger was there, but his character was more minor and less important.

Jamie fainting was hilarious.

It sucks that we have to wait two weeks for the next episode.

That's the thing...she was dealing with a lot and I still found her bland and boring. I'm guessing it is a combination of the writing and me not liking the actress. I didn't like her last season either and had hoped she would grow on me. She hasn't!

I do understand her staying behind with Roger though. She is a grown woman who is perhaps in love and I think at her age it is normal to not follow her parent(s). She has her own life to live and it isn't in the 1700's. It's not like she would likely be living with her parents...she's over 18. Again, I don't know what happens in the books about whether she ever visits that time, but I'm assuming Roger can't go through the stones so I can't really see her leaving him behind.

Wickedum - he is a bit blah. But I find him kind of sweet in a fuddy duddy way, lol.

I liked the episode for the most part. Partly because I love Roger and the ending was perfect. I didn't expect Jamie and Claire to actually see each other and was pleasantly surprised when they did. First I thought it'd fade to black when Claire entered the shop and then when we heard Jamie's voice and again when Claire sees him. I'm happy they didn't make us wait and the faint was perfect.

Brianna is just kind of there for me. Don't dislike her, but don't love her. I had a hard time liking her in the books too a lot of the time and was hoping it'd be better in the show. I'm hoping it gets better since I want to like her.

newfmad 10-09-2017 06:15 PM

I'm having mixed feelings about this episode.

I really liked the ending, was hoping we would see them together, even if briefly, and hoped that they wouldn't make us wait! Great! I was kinda excited about that, as the rest of the episode seemed to drag.

I'm not sure about Bree and Roger, I really enjoyed them in the books and I guess I have my own ideas about what they would be like. Roger is nice in the show, but he doesn't have the same "pull" that I imagined he would have.
I can see why Bree was so angry, and how that might put people off her character, but IMO she really only had anything to add to the story in this episode, when she told Claire that she had a responsibility to go back to Jamie and tell him about her (Bree).

I'm looking forward to seeing Claire and Jamie actually together.

Against_all_odds 10-09-2017 08:47 PM

That's true,I suppose some part of me wants her to meet Jamie. She'll be without Claire for her wedding and then her first child. She has no family left, which is kind of sad.

Then again,if she marries Roger,it won't matter. They're in it together and she has him to lean on.

Heidsdk 10-10-2017 01:32 AM

okay so i liked this episode somehow, but the best thing was the last seconds when we saw jamie and claire, i was like sqeeking i was soo happy :D felt bad for him cause he fainted haha  but overall , it wasnt the same with not seeing jamie in the episode that was weird.
