Drums of Autumn [ Book 4 ] #1: "You are my courage, as I am your conscience. You are my heart...Neither of us whole, alone."
DRUMS OF AUTUMN readers do NOT discuss future books here It began in Scotland, at an ancient stone circle. There, a doorway, open to a select few, leads into the past—or the grave. Claire Randall survived the extraordinary passage, not once but twice. Her first trip swept her into the arms of Jamie Fraser, an eighteenth-century Scot whose love for her became legend—a tale of tragic passion that ended with her return to the present to bear his child. Her second journey, two decades later, brought them together again in frontier America. But Claire had left someone behind in the twentieth century. Their daughter, Brianna.... |

Just started this one last night ... Not sure what to expect, after the crazy that was the end of Voyager. Anyone else reading?
|
It has been awhile and I remember the overall plot points and may be sketchy on the details.
But it has its endearing moments. Feel free to comment on any of the previous novels and characters that may or may not return. Those are open to discussion here as well. Keep us updated as you read along and let the chatting begin. :) Would you like to be added? |
^ Not necessarily ... I just like having a place to discuss. :D
The jumping back and forth between modern/18th century doesn't bother me as much in this book, perhaps because it's not about Claire/Jamie being apart -- but establishing Roger/Bree in their own time. Interesting, for sure ... |
No, you are correct. It is and then there is a bit of a twist, too. :D

I'm about 2/3 through and OH. MY. WORD.
All I know is that they're going to have to nail the casting for Bree and Roger. They might have overtaken Claire/Jamie at this point for me ... I love how they have been developed and knew at some point some time-jumping would occur but I never thought she'd go alone! :bawl: But the casting will be like trying to capture magic twice, after finding Cait/Sam. For Bree alone, there has to be enough likeness to Jamie AND an incredible chemistry with Roger that has to simmer for (hopefully) the second and third seasons before exploding in the fourth. So good. I love that they're not overwritten. It's wonderfully enjoyable to see them develop more naturally and manage to surprise me in really sweet ways with their story. Debating whether I should put myself on a list for book 5 at the library ... I never know until I reach the end if I need to continue forward immediately or I can take a break. I've got another book that I'm currently taking a break from, which I'd really like to finish before the end of the year. Oh well. |
Finished at about 2 a.m. Totally did not expect the ending. I thought they were going to make a concerted effort to get back through the stones! What are they going to do now?!
The wait for book 5 begins ... ;) Also really grateful Lord John Grey didn't die. His character has grown on me a lot. Glad Gabaldon brought him back into the picture. |

I have started book 5. Roughly a third of the way through. Would be further, but I took three days off to read through The Selection series. Nice palate cleanser. :D |
^ ;)

I always feel sorry for Lord John . I just want him to be happy :(. Settling for friendship with somebody you love must be incredibly difficult .
