The episode was good enough for me. Caitlin is one of the lead characters on this show. She’s going to have storylines and centric episodes of her own. And some people are just going to have to accept that.

She's a main character but not a lead.

It's true that as long as she's a part of the show she's going to get a centric episode here and there. It is what it is.

I get why the reviews were mainly negative. The episode was clunky. Joshua V. Gilbert and Kristem Kim (especially) are responsible for some of the weakest letdown episodes of the show. So I wasn't surprised.

They found him in a room, where he'd been locked away for 20 years. Talk about anti climatic. They pop him back to Star Labs. Where once again the Team is dense as hell (except Cisco). Caitlin yells in Cisco's face, that whole scene was...anyway. Then they get betrayed surprise surprise and another recton Devoe didn't take KF away as we all thought, and as the future episodes showed us in black and white, she was deep down all along, because he used another meta's powers. So why was KF ever "evil" in the first place? Never explained. Now she's all about family.

They refuse to pull the trigger with Killer Frost and so she's now this caricature. That is only interesting the less you know about her. What was ever wrong with the true KF origin story...oh yeah that would have meant investing time in a female character, which the show struggles to do. Instead it's this Flashpoint turn of events that plops along within S3 without explanation. Then becomes the joke of S4. Suddenly despite not being conscious when she's around, Caitlin feels like she's completely lost without KF, what? When? This bonding between them consists of notes back and forth. Shown in only one episode.

The episode should have included Caitlin's mom. Having her caught between the two of them. It should have been at her mother's setting rather than in the dreaded Star Labs. Killer Frost should have appeared after/during a confrontation between her mother and father as he's turning evil. Maybe flashbacks throughout the episode, I dunno. What we got was lackluster.

Part of me wants to say that didn't care enough to flesh it out, as is always my complaint with female characters on DCTV, but they were building up to it for episodes. So maybe it was truly just poor execution this time.

I am forever disappointed they didn't just stick to the Fire/Ice dynamic between Ronnie/Caitlin but that was a billion years ago. Can't cry over spilt milk from 2014.
