Rookie Blue (9-11pm – 5.7 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49): Building sharply on its lead-in at 9pm (+43%), ABC’s Rookie Blue opened its 5th season at #1 in its 2-hour slot with Total Viewers (5.7 million), topping each half-hour. The ABC drama also ranked #1 in its time period among Adults 25-54 (1.4/3-tie). Head to head from 9-10pm, ABC’s Rookie Blue beat out its drama competition in the hour, leading Fox’s Gang Related by 3.1 million viewers (5.7 million vs. 2.6 million) and 11% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/3 vs. 0.9/3).



· Rookie Blue was up from its September season finale by 1 million viewers and held steady in Adults 18-49 (4.7 million and 1.0/3 on 9/12/13). In fact the show drew its biggest audience in more than 1 year, topping all but the first two telecasts of its fourth season – since 5/30/13.

Rookie Blue is getting a double-sized Season 5 — but it won’t all see the light of day this summer, at least Stateside on ABC.

As commissioned by its Canadian producers, the cop drama’s next edition will deliver 22 episodes instead of its usual 13, TVLine has confirmed. However, fans in the United States will have to wait an indeterminate amount of time for the conclusion of Season 5, since ABC plans to air only the first 11 installments this summer.

Canada’s Global TV channel is following the same game plan, airing just 11 of the episodes this summer, reports ET Canada.

There are no details yet on when the rest of the Season 5 — which as just announced bows Thursday, July 17 at 10/9c on ABC — will be broadcast.

Perhaps they're looking at transitioning to the fall line-up.. :
6 seasons in. Imagine! Prolly not, but it'll be interesting to see what they do.
