TFTNT I have been wondering why Dorian was cast before Ethan. Ethan is clearly a main player, and I just thought that strange.

As far as casting goes, maybe they just had a tougher time finding the right Ethan since he's so important, so it took them longer?

That's what I was thinking, Ethan is a valuable player, they didn't want to rush it. They wanted the best

I thought that perhaps it was easier to cast Dorian, because he`s been already well defined through the book. I also think that Logan, because he`s gay, felt drawn to the book, and had already a very clear picture in his head of how Dorian must look. And Josh is perfect as Ethan, only I have no idea what made them think of him. Perhaps he simply auditioned for the role, and was the obvious choice.

At Comic Con they said it was tough to cast Dorian because they weren't sure how exactly they wanted him to look but when Reeve walked in they thought he'd be perfect. It was probably like that for Ethan, too, like not knowing for sure and then he walks in and it's like "PLEASE WORK FOR US WE LOVE YOU"

Oh, I must have missed that first part about the difficulty; but I understand what JL thought when he saw Reeve. I too think he`s perfect, and I know some disagree, but I did not have a fresh impression of a Victorian Dorian Gray in my mind. The only DG movie I watched is from 1970, a "modern" adaptation not set in Victorian times, and the actor (Helmut Berger) was even more perfect, because he was the real deal. I read up on him after, and to me it seems that movie was like a curse to him. He lived a crazy life of total excess like I could not imagine in my wildest dreams, and now looks just like one would expect. Sadly it`s not in English, not even subtitled. ^Interesting looking Dorian there Reeve was my first Dorian so to me he's him and I don't have any ideas of how he should look, which probably helped my obsession love for him to grow
