That was a very good interview. I love how involved the showrunners are with the music. It makes me hopeful that their attention to detail will be shown in every aspect of the show.

LOL that video. At least Clare is consistent.

Entertainment Weekly gave the premiere a B+. Not too bad.

Good article. "The brown-haired, handsome men" sounds like the name of a band.

I really love this part
Quote:
My feeling was that Nashville seemed like two different shows blanketed together,” Herskovitz says. “It seemed like a relationship drama, very similar to the types of things [coshowrunner Ed Zwick] and I had done before. … And at the same time, it was a soap opera where … people would constantly break up and sleep with other people and get back together and there was just a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. And I was quickly made to understand that the fan base of the show had gotten somewhat frustrated in the fourth season that somehow, the soap opera part of it had kind of taken over.” Herskovitz plans to let the story breathe by deviating from the ABC structure, in which every episode served every ongoing storyline, yielding less depth and shorter scenes.
It makes me hopeful that that crap will not happen anymore. Seriously thinking back at the list of all the hook ups I named a few days ago, it was out of control.

Thanks for that. I love article that point out how ridiculous the show was last season like this part :
Quote:
“That’s been a successful model [for some shows], but it’s never been our approach, and it’s not an approach I know how to do,” Herskovitz says now. But it is the approach that seemed to govern Nashville in previous years, particularly during the fourth season, when a parade of manufactured conflicts — some believable, many others considerably less so — rushed through town, leaving both the characters and fans exhausted. Remember the time that Deacon (Chip Esten) decided to move into bar management despite being an alcoholic? How about Rayna (Connie Britton) trying to help that aspiring country singer who was living out of her car? And then there was Riff, best friend and retired bandmate of Luke Wheeler (Will Chase), who was introduced and then ended up in a coma in the span of three episodes.

“There was a way in which, last year, Deacon was made to act out in a kind of rage that you had never seen in the character before. It didn’t feel like who Deacon really was. So we’re just not following that part of the storyline; we’re being truer to what we feel Deacon has been all along.”
THANK YOU.

I am loving everything I read from these showrunners and so so happy that they are going to ignore some of the ridiculous plots from last year.

I think Riff was one of the highlights of the crazy year - the man who sexed drank and drugged himself into a coma. How that actor doctor delivered that line without them all cracking up laughing I will never know! Although the Vita plot was also beyond ridiculous- laughed when Deacon was giving the Bev staff that pep talk about keeping going when Vita went missing - most of them were probably thinking Vita ??who ???!!

Is it too much to hope that the name Bev - either the dead sister or the bar are never mentioned again

Is it too much to hope that Layla is ONLY mentioned again and she's never seen?
