He should have been old in the wish realm when Regina first met him, but he wasn't and they never explained it.

They never explained it. Matter of convenience. Too bad they didn't make it interesting by making him the real RH's soul trapped inside that realm but he just forgot who he was.

If Regina had been right that no one there was "real", he could have become "real" if the soul of the original Robin was somehow able to be merged with him. But then they would have been back where they were before with OQ and they didn't want him back long term.

The only thing that gives me hope that they might bring him back alive is that the series is ending.

That is what I was thinking. I don't think that was ever going to be a possibility if this show continued into s8 or beyond.

I'm wondering now if they initially intended for her to end this season either with Facilier or in some type of developing relationship with him that they would explore more in season 8. Then when they found out there would be no season 8, they realized there wasn't enough time, so they're just cutting that story short, and bringing back Robin in the finale because OQ is already established. It's not at all unreasonable that if Robin came back, they would immediately reunite. Now I'm talking like he's back alive, someone stop me...

If s8 was a green light, I think they were going to pursue more with Facilier. I don't know how long they intended it to last or if it would have been TL, but I think we would have at least gotten a backstory to their shared history. Of course, even if that were the case, I was kind of guilty of romanticizing the notion of Regina's new LI in my head from the very beginning. I put expectations into the possibilities good writing could bring, but in reality, I have no faith in this show to establish a well written love story for Regina. Not after how they handled Robin Hood & OQ.

The other possibility is they always intended for Facilier to be short term considering their earlier statements that the new LI wasn't going to be central to her story & Regina doesn't need a man to be happy.

I've been questioning for the last couple weeks what is the point of the relationship with Facilier and because it's the only explanation that makes sense to me, I'm just going with they started writing it before they knew about cancellation and intended to eventually redeem him. Whether or not it would have become a love story, we'll never know, but it makes a bit more sense to me when I consider the fact that the episodes we are seeing now were filmed in early December, 2 months before they knew about cancellation.

I romanticized a new love interest for Regina as well.

At this point, I just want Robin back alive so I can imagine that they got their happy beginning.

I think with the ratings, it is not unreasonable to presume they suspected a likely cancellation back when they finally started writing for Facilier & Regina. So that is more confusing. But, yeah, at this point, the what ifs are meaningless considering s7 will be the end. I just want Robin back and part of her conclusion as well.
