Off Topic #33: Winter is coming

Continue

Candace, well, at least you now have the cause of your back pain(s). I think only surgery can help you fix it - they fill in artificial filler material between your vertebraes, I think. And the one being 'out of line' can be fixed that way, too.

But yes, if it's managable I'd hold on until absolutely necessary, too

I hope it stays manageable for you, Candace. I'm glad it's not as bad as they think it should be which is a good thing.

Candace: yes that is the joys of retail...I just wish she had given a two week notice or told us instead of leaving us on call . I'll gladly take some overtime though, I'm sure taxes will eat it up but I'll get it back. Also our store manager plans to quit, his last day is next Friday, I foresee a lot of changes to our store.

Sandy, I saw on the previous thread that the new girl at your work is leaving, she didn’t last long! Would applying for manager be something you’d want or be able to do?

^I would, sadly for my job now I need a license and a car but we shall see what the future holds. I'm hoping to have a license by spring or early summer, with that I'd even get into a distrubtion center. For now I'll ride it out especially with my surgery coming up.

Surgery isn't something she suggested and honestly, isn't something I'd pursue.

I would never want to be a manager, Sandy! I couldn't handle having to work those kinds of hours.

^If I were assistant (which is the first step) you're pretty much the lowest of the low manager . I'd have to work a few 2-11's and like one or two mornings. I'd probably be okay with that, working at Walmart gave me that funky schedule so I'm used to it (they had me once work 2pm to 11pm and the next day 4am to 1pm...Amaya was about six weeks old at the time, I wasn't happy but I survived). At my last job I was a department supervisor but we were alone so I had nobody working beneath me really, I had to help unload truck and stock my own freight. If I ever had anything specific I wanted done after I left for the day the co-manager would get someone to do it for me.

I don't blame you on the surgery part, it's something huge in general to consider. It actually took me a while to decide on the one I'm having next month and than I've had my fair share of obstacles coming for it (trying to get to my blood doctor next week) I just did so much and came so far that I now refuse to turn back but if you told me all of this stuff about it and surgery in general back in August I'd probably run for the mountains and never want to hear of it again.

There isn't really much that can be done. The same thing was said about the bulging discs in my back discovered years ago. Basically for the stress fracture, you avoid what aggravates it. In my case, that's not straining or overdoing it with my back. That's something I do every day anyway. The job I have isn't a huge help, but a sit-down job wouldn't necessarily be the answer either.

I'm considering going ahead and seeing a specialist as I had another mini bad day yesterday. I'll have to call her and get the referral I need.

Of course, losing weight can help...surprised that topic wasn't the focus of the whole appointment. Doctors love to go there as much as they can.

Haha, I feel you on the weight loss thing

Hm, I hope a specialist can give you 'better' options of treatment. Not straining it etc is not always managable, as you already said.

I think loosing weight is there answer to everything- got the flu? loose weight . And now that I'm going for that surgery every doctor just asks "why" so you can't win with them . I hope the specialist can help you out

I get the whole not staining it yet a sit down job is no help too. When they told me I had a huge cyst and pulled me from work (surprise surprise I had a twisted back the whole time) after basically telling me to take it easy and relax the physical therapist goes and says "Actually you should work through the pain" so anything with the back is sadly a no win situation

I get you, you get one opinion from one doctor/specialist and another from a different one.

I’m thinking of getting a Fitbit or something similar. I want to measure my sleep and steps during the day. Do any of you guys have one?

I don’t have one but my iPhone has a health app (it comes already installed) and it measures your steps. I don’t think it’s too far off, the days (weekends) where I sleep all day it’s definitely less than the days I bring Amaya to and from school (I average almost 10,000 steps those days and it makes sense as it is a lot of walking). Walking and water are the two best things for you, I’ve been doing horrible with soda but I’m still drinking at least one or two bottles of water a day.
