Hold on - I have it in my mind that Kate turned down that magazine job for Matilda because of her mom dying during that time.
Is that actually on the show or was it in a fanfic?

It’s not mentioned on the show but Johanna Beckett died in January 1999 which is the same month as the photo shoot so it’s definitely possible.
