This is such sad news. I will miss Penny, and therefore Gates, terribly. I guess this opens the way for Kate... maybe there will be a time jump so she already has her own precinct when we come back? I just... Penny deserves so much better. __________________

Yeah, I'm afraid they'll do that.
Although I wish they would have her back for the first or first two episodes to explain it all, as a guest star, not a regular. Penny would deserve this much at least. __________________

We know from Jon and Seamus that they will.
I have seen hints on tumblr that Susan, Molly and Tamala won't be regulars anymore, just guest stars. But that was just speculation. I guess we'll learn at the latest when the opening credits for 8x01 roll for the first time  __________________
