How many times did Tom tell Liz he was going to change for her? A million times and he never did. A man like Tom can't change. It was in his nature to be the way that he was. He was trained to be that way. I am sure he didn't even know what is was like to be a normal person and not a trained operative.

I totally agree, it's simply been who he was the whole time... He was raised that way, he didn't have a caring family, anybody who loved him from such a young age. And this damage you simply don't get to make right again, no matter what.
