In the beginning I was wondering if Red saw him more like a child of his own but no, it's more like a brother.

Dembe was 15. I always thought it would be like a son. But now it seems more like brothers. Or maybe even a complete role reversal with Dembe as the father

But it seems like the relationship would be with Red as the father figure. I wonder if the writers changed it becuase Of reds feelings about himself

Dembe was 15. From reds story it just seems like he should have been 35 or so when he found dembe. Not 25. That’s a lot to have happened to red at 25 years old especially if his daughter was school age.
