Cena Injury Update



As reported yesterday by WWE Mobile Alerts, WWE Champion John Cena was injured last night on Raw when Umaga bulldozed him through a table.

Cena was left with severe abdominal pain from the fall, which WWE doctor Ferdinand Rios suspected was due to a ruptured spleen. Cena was taken to a nearby medical facility for an abdominal CT scan, but refused admission and left the hospital under his own power— against the advice of the attending physician.

Many question the reasoning behind Cena ignoring the potentially severe injury. According to doctors, physical activity, especially contact sports, could be catastrophic.

WWE.com has learned of a new clause in the company’s wellness policy. When a Superstar is admitted to a medical facility, there is a minimum number of days the Superstar cannot compete. This is dependent upon the severity of the condition diagnosed. Cena’s subsequent actions after his diagnosis raises the question: did Cena refuse to be admitted to the hospital to avoid the risk of not being cleared to defend his title against Umaga at the Royal Rumble this Sunday?

It’s no secret he wants revenge on the Samoan Bulldozer, but is refusing the needed medical attention the right decision? Could Cena be jeopardizing his career for his lust for retribution?

Standing Tall


As first reported by WWE Mobile Alerts, WWE Champion John Cena will defend his title this Sunday at the Royal Rumble in a Last Man Standing Match.

The news comes on the heels of Umaga’s destruction of Cena this past week on Raw, where the WWE Champion was seriously injured. Despite what doctors termed “severe abdominal injuries,” John Cena refused admittance to a medical facility Monday night.

Rumors had been circulating all week that at the Royal Rumble this Sunday Cena would forfeit his match against the Samoan Bulldozer. On ECW on Sci Fi this past Tuesday, even Joey Styles and Tazz speculated about the health of the WWE Champion.

Sources close to Cena have told WWE.com that the WWE Champion will compete as scheduled in his Last Man Standing Match vs. Umaga for the WWE Championship.

John Cena could not be reached for comment by WWE.com.

WWE fan pumped to workout with John Cena




Hector Pagan anxiously waits inside Gold’s Gym in Dallas with his wife Lisandra. Soon, the 29-year-old Brooklyn resident is met by WWE Champion John Cena, but before he can say, “the champ is here,” Pagan is bombarded by WWE and CW camera crews who have come to capture every moment of the next hour of his life.

This is probably not what Pagan had envisioned when he learned he won the Gold’s Gym “Win a Boot Camp Workout with WWE Superstar John Cena!” sweepstakes. While Cena changes in the locker room, two cameramen, a soundman, a lighting technician, a producer, a still photographer and a WWE.com reporter go into action. Even Pagan’s wife whips out her video camera to document what is happening.

“He’s really been looking forward to this,” says Lisandra. “My husband buys tickets to every live show that’s in New York and every meet and greet that John Cena has in Long Island. He always goes to it with the kids.”

Pagan sits on a bench in the corner of gym to do a quick interview before the real workout begins.

“I’m expecting the worst since it’s a boot camp workout,” laughs Pagan. “I hope he doesn’t take it easy on me.”

The Champ emerges from the locker room and bangs out a couple of shots for the cameras. Finally, it’s time to get the workout underway as Cena leads Pagan over to the free weights. The guys are going to workout Pagan’s favorite muscle group: the arms. Cena starts by doing a set of lying triceps extensions, explaining his exercise philosophy as he goes.

“I hate cardio, so if you can move quickly between sets, you don’t have to deal with that crap,” Cena says as the whole crew chuckles. The Champ finishes his set and hands the weight to Pagan. The men trade off and work through three sets each before taking off across the gym.

Cena demonstrates the next triceps exercise, cable pressdowns, and the men start working through their sets. When Pagan’s muscles start to get fatigued, Cena cuts the weight in half and has him do 10 more reps with the lighter weight.

“It’s not about how much you lift, but how good you feel afterward,” Cena tells Pagan.

The two men go back across the gym to the free weights, camera crews in tow. Cena, who actually worked at Gold’s Gym while pursuing a bodybuilding career, rearranges the benches so Pagan can go right from seated overhead triceps extensions to triceps kickbacks.

Next Cena takes him to do dips. Pagan looks at him skeptically since he has never done them before.

“Do as many as you can,” The Champ tells him. “If you crash and burn early, that means you're working hard.” Pagan makes it through eight dips on the first set and Cena predicts he can do four on the next, but challenges him to prove him wrong. Pagan grinds out five.

For the second half of the workout, Cena focuses on the biceps showing Pagan several variations of biceps curls. The intensity of the workout is really catching up with the sweaty Pagan, but Cena’s inner personal trainer comes out to encourage him along.

“He’s looking like a champ,” says Cena. “You’re looking bigger with every set. We’re going to take a break soon… after a few more sets,” Pagan and the crew all laugh.

The workout is over and Pagan looks relieved.

“It was a great workout,” says Pagan whose arms are already sore. “I’m going to continue the workouts he showed me and like he said, to workout fast to get the whole body done instead of coming in, doing a couple of things and not really getting anything done.”

“Hector did awesome,” says Cena before leaving. “I think today was really good for him. I think he’s like everyone else in believing that if you lift weights you have to go heavy and you have to do low reps to get strong. That’s not necessarily the case. You can cut down on your injuries a lot and stay healthy not only strength-wise, but cardiovascular-wise just by altering your training a little bit," he says

“You can print this: I don’t do any straight cardio. I hate the treadmill. I hate the Stairmaster. I hate bikes. I hate it. This is my message to anyone out there looking to get in shape, wanting to know what to do: don’t do anything you don’t like because this should be fun. I enjoy being in the gym. I enjoy working out," says The Champ. "If you want to get stronger, but you don’t like lifting weights, don’t F’n lift weights. If you like to play hoops, play hoops. If you like to golf, go walk 18 instead of getting in a cart. You don’t necessarily have to workout in a gym to get healthy.”

Rockin' Rentals

Ask most WWE fans and they will tell you that John Cena is No. 1 in the ring. Now, the current WWE Champion and World Tag Team Champion has a new credit to add to his impressive list of achievements: top rental. After making a huge splash at the box office, WWE Films’ The Marine is now the No. 1 DVD rental in the country.

The Marine stars Cena as John Triton, an ex-marine on a mission to rescue his kidnapped wife (played by the beautiful Kelly Carlson). Home Media Retailing mentions The Marine’s astronomical rental rate in their top story. “The Marine, an actioner about a group of diamond thieves… did manage to storm to the top of Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart for the week, earning an estimated $6.3 million.” Along with the original release, a special unrated version of the film is out on store shelves.

“In the unrated version, the WWE fans get to see a true director’s cut, which obviously makes for a more exciting movie,” Cena told WWE.com. “We shot a PG-13 movie, and there’s a lot of toeing the line you need to do for that. The people who were in charge of that stuff were going as far as counting the amount of bullet holes riddled into the Camaro we fired off the bridge! In the unrated version, you get to see a lot more of the action.”

Cena Stays Up Late

The Champ stayed up late Thursday night, as he was a special guest on CBS’s The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. John Cena chatted it up with Ferguson about everything from The Marine on DVD to getting in the ring with K-Fed to Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to WrestleMania 23.

Ferguson was immediately wowed by Cena’s size.

“Look at the size of his fist. Oh my God!” Ferguson shouted, as the crowd cheered. “When you hold a regular fork, does it look like a little corn on the cob fork? All burgers look like White Castle burgers to you, bro.”

Cena laughed it off and the two began discussing how The Champ has balanced a career in sports-entertainment and acting.

“You just go from kicking ass in a 20-by-20 ring to kicking ass on a giant screen. It actually was really, really different,” Cena explained. “With sports-entertainment you’re performing live in front of thousands of people every night, so that gets you excited. A movie set is very quiet, and it’s very different.”

Ferguson mentioned that Cena recently got in the Raw ring with Kevin Federline.

“You were the one that kicked K-Fed’s ass. Can I say on behalf of America, thank you very much?” Ferguson said to a laughing live audience.

“You’re very welcome. I know you all wanted to do it. I was just doing the deed for you,” Cena quipped.

“Have you heard from Britney yet at all?” Ferguson asked.

“No, I put my number out there, almost in a stalker-like fashion,” Cena joked.

The Champ also told Ferguson about the excitement surrounding the upcoming WrestleMania 23.

“Vince McMahon – my boss, self-proclaimed world’s greatest billionaire, yada-yada-yada; and Donald Trump – also self-proclaimed world’s greatest billionaire – they’re both going to get in the WWE ring and they said instead of fighting each other, we’ll each pick a guy. Trump’s going to pick a guy, Vince is going to pick a guy. Loser gets his head shaved,” Cena explained, as the crowd gasped.

“Actually that’s easy for Trump, because if he loses it, he just takes it off!” Ferguson responded.

Cena gets revved up

John Cena is living life in the fast lane this week. He’s one of several celebrities filming the new ABC reality series, Fast Cars and Superstars: Gillette Young Guns Celebrity Race. The celebs will join NASCAR’s Gillette Young Guns drivers at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C., to compete against each other.

In addition to Cena, the other celebrities participating in the show are:

Celebrities will be eliminated on each episode, and three will compete in an exciting final race.
