'The Hardcore Diaries' makes an impressive debut

Mick Foley’s The Hardcore Diaries debuted at No. 7 on the New York Times’ Nonfiction Best Sellers list this week. The Hardcore Legend told WWE.com he’s thrilled – and relived – his autobiography made the notable list.

“An author should never really judge his book on whether or not it places on the New York Times’ list, but once it did, it was like the weight of the world was off my shoulders,” he said.

Foley admitted he previously made a mental list of why it would be okay if The Hardcore Diaries didn’t make the Times’ list, but once it did, that mental list went in the trash.

“It is very exciting, especially because I had gone a long time without having a book that made the list. I think I took it for granted when I first started writing books that everything I did would end up on the list. My first four books did,” Foley said.

“I wrote two novels that I really liked, worked hard on and was very proud of that didn’t come near the list. My children’s book, which I thought was one of the best things I’d ever done in any facet of my life, didn’t get near the list, either,” he explained.

“Now that I’m a little older and more experienced, I can better appreciate how special it is to have a best seller.”

Foley said that for those WWE fans who haven’t taken a look at The Hardcore Diaries yet, he believes it’s the type of book he would have enjoyed when he was a WWE fan.

“The more I think about it, the happier I am with the book because I realize it’s not just about that six-week period of time that I cover in WWE, but it’s about kids who have touched my life, and different situations that are important to me,” he said.

“It’s a great way to have some laughs, do some thinking and cringe a little bit, as well. I think honestly, without putting down some of the other books, the fact that I write them myself makes a huge difference. You will get a sense of intimacy,” he laughed. “Not romantic intimacy, but intimacy nonetheless, in this book that a ghost-writer just can’t bring to WWE fans. I said on TV it’s the most honest book I’ve ever written, and I believe that’s true.”

Most of all, Foley wanted to thank the WWE fans who have made The Hardcore Diaries a New York Times best seller in its first week on store shelves.

“I want to say thank you very much, because now that the book has place, I will not mind nearly as much if it fades a little bit, but I hope the WWE fans will recommend it to friends,” he said.

“It is a book that’s important to me and I’d like to see it continue to do well. I cannot stress enough how thankful I am that WWE fans have chosen to pick it up.”

Congrats to Mick. His books always seem to sell well.
