Update on Joey Mercury
December 18, 2006

Joey Mercury’s face, a raw, inflamed mess with blood still seeping out from his stitches, was scarlet red around his nose and left eye with hundreds of flakes of dry blood clinging to various places on his face.

“I’ve shattered my nose around the bridge area,” said a bruised and swollen Mercury, who was severely injured at last night’s Armageddon pay-per-view in a Ladder Match. “I have four fractures on the inside of my nose; I have 5 stitches on the inside of my nose and my cheek and 15 stitches on the outside of my nose and cheek. My left eye is swollen shut and I have continual internal bleeding from my nose and my eye.”

To Mercury’s credit, the injury that would have knocked most people out cold only left him momentarily stunned.

“I remember everything [about the incident],” he said. “I never lost consciousness and I never passed out.”

Asked what it felt like when the legs of the ladder dug into his face and ripped a gaping hole down his nose and under his eye, he thought long and hard before he spoke.

“I have nothing to compare it to; I’ve never been hit that hard in the face before,” he said as he paused. “I’d have to say it felt like a hundred-pound steel ladder connecting with my face at one-hundred miles per hour; or going head first through a windshield of a car without a seatbelt on; maybe getting hit in the face with a baseball bat swung by Sammy Sosa.”

Mercury made it clear it was the outcome of the match, not the injury, that was on his mind the day after the ghastly incident.

“Had I not been forced to leave the match due to a severe amount of blood loss, MNM would be the WWE Tag Team Champions,” he said. “Again, we made it clear that MNM is the greatest tag team in the modern era – not The Hardys.”

I expected his face to look like that, awful the way he got hurt, and blood everywhere

Watching it for the first time right now, here's my opinion:

MVP Vs. Kane: You know, a lot of people have said that MVP is the future of wrestling and I never really thought about it until I was watching him just now and you know, he does seem like he'll be something big in the future. He reminds me of a young Rock when he had just turned heel for the first time and was cocky as hell. But anyway, back to the match...what made this for me was not only the superstars in the ring but also JBL on commentary. Just him screaming, "One of the guys has to be set on fire? What are we doing here?" That made my day.

Ladder match: Before I even watched this match, I was excited 'cause I've LOOOOVED ladder matches ever since 2005's wrestlemania. But anyways, back to the match...it was kind of hard to really pay attention to this match because I was looking foreword to the moment when Mercury got hit by the ladder...that moment was worse than I had thought. I've seen it on Raw and on Smackdown, but it's worse when you see it on the PPV. He is literally crawling on the floor with blood oozing out of his face. That was the worst thing I've ever seen in Wrestling history. But the match was good, those wrestlers were def. hurting in the morning. They gave their all and I'm proud to be a fan.

The Miz versus The boogyman: I've been a fan of the boogyman since he entered the WWE and have followed the Miz since his days on the Real world so I was actually looking foreward to seeing this match. (Off-topic: why isn't the boogyman in the rumble???) I know that this wasn't really supposed to be a big match, just something for entertainment purposes, so I wasn't really expecting much of it when watching the match, but I was suprised. You can tell that the Miz is really taking this seriously. His in-ring ability is a lot better than his mic ability. It was an okay match, but went by really fast.

Chavo w/Vicki Guerrero VS Chris Beniot: Some people are not liking this storyline, but I guess I'm just trying to look at it from a behind the scenes perspective. Maybe Eddie and Vicki's kids get a kick out of seeing their mom on television and Chavo and Chris see this as a way of keeping an eye on Vicki and think that Eddie would get a kick out of this storyline (remember Eddie was the same person who agreed to pretend to be Dominic (rey's son) for months a couple of years ago). Who knows, really! But I just hope this storyline ends soon and, if she is to stay on for longer, Vicki gets another storyline soon. The match...it was okay. I'm not really a fan of these two fighting against one another so I pretty much studied while they were in the ring. My bad!

Gregory Helms VS Jimmy Wang Yang : It's kind of weird but I used to have a HUGE crush on the Hurricane back in the day, but when he took off the mask and was just Gregory Helms, my crush left...I think it might be because he plays the ******* so well. Now, about the match..I never really paid attention to either individual (post-hurricane helms era) but I actually admit that they did put effort into this match, but it was really weird when JBL broke character for a second and noted how the crowd was chanting, "Boring!" He talked about how this was the first time we had an interesting cruiser weight match in a long time and we should be happy. I felt bad 'cause I wasn't really paying all that attention to this match and JBL was was on point about a lot of his words

Undertaker Versus Ken Kennedy: This is the match that I've been waiting to see. I LOOOOOOOVE me some Taker and am growing fond of Ken Kennedy, as well, so this was a treat. I couldn't help but nodding when Kennedy was on the mic and said, "You are looking at the future of smackdown, hell, I am smackdown." That's kind of true in a way, if UT and Mr. Kennedy weren't there, I don't think I'd watch SD. But anyway, back to the match..it was really good. At one point, I just knew Mr. Kennedy was going to win (yeah, even though I knew UT had won the match) but UT sit up and that was the end of that. Great match!

Divas in lingere Disliked Krystals outfit. Too much going on. Layla was cute..lil see through, but cute. Jillian's lingere was edible. Ashley's outfit wasn't that cute. Plaid. (ANd yeah, I know ya'll don't care about what they're wearing )

Batista/Cena versus Finlay/King Booker: Last match of the night (and good thing since it's almost 1:30am ) It was cool seeing a Raw wrestler get in the ring with a few smackdown wrestlers. I know it's always nice to get some what of a change for the men...anyway, it's soo intersting seeing Finlay in a main event match. He's been in the WWE for so long (I remember when he was security ), it's nice for him to get more recognition. Good match, but it seemed like more of a SD episode match than a PPV match
