Del Toro has great potential, but somehow he doesn't achieve his thoughts perfectly in the end result. There is always something lacking, mostly in the plot and the dialogues. However, in this movie the effects and performances of the actors will be surely in the foreground. And I'm very thrilled and anxious to hear the background music, as Lucille is going to have some parts where she is playing the piano.

del Toro is such a perfectionist - his attention to details is amazing, the lengths he can go to to achieve what he wants and just the right way.
I'm not saying his movies are all form and that has absolute priority to substance, but that the way he translates some things from page to screen are so rich that they add complete new layers to a scene or single action.
He did pay for parts of the set himself, so at least he could take home some of it and the props as memento.  |
