I still don't think they'll go with Ragnarok like they have in the comics, at least not with the taking it to the extreme consequences, which would mean "rebooting" the whole universe. Besides, Thor can't die, at least not until the third Avengers movie, I think.

I expect it to be another case of almost-Apocalypse, but hopefully done much better than what they did with Malekith loving eternal darkness for the hell of it.

I'm a bit out of the loop with spoilers in general, I need to do a mega catch up to have a better idea of what we might get.

Yay for this thread. Thanks!

A day later and I have washed my hands of it all. I don't care what they do or do not. I have zero faith in the writing team assigned to this so I have lowered the creative bar to almost the ground in expectations. When they kill Loki off I can kick the mcu to the curb and be done with them, since I don't care about any of the other comic movies. Mmmwwwahahaha

p.s. Thor is on right now on FX channel. They just played *the scene*. Best scene out of all the movies.

Thanks for starting Fran!

Can someone explain Ragnarok to me? I looked it up and it's giving me two different things. I'm getting a Thor clone and than the end of all things Norse apocalypse? I'm confused

It depends on whether you're looking at the mythology description or the comic book versions. They differ, but the gist of the thing is it's the end of the current world, and the rebirth of a new one. Basically. Sort of. Kinda?

Tell me we're not getting a Thor clone though? No clones please, just Loki playing and effing things up

Ragnarok is the name of the half-cyborg half-clone Tony created because he's a jerk using a strand of the real Thor's hair he had saved years before, and then of course things went very wrong with the whole thing. It's a storyline linked to the Civil War arc - no way they would go there in the MCU, thankfully, especially now that the movies have Tony already filling his creating-a-creature-who-screws-everyone-over quota with Ultron.

From what I know, there are a few stories that touch on the whole Ragnarok thing, so Marvel has quite some freedom in how to plan it in the movies. Besides, it's not like they care that much about being too loyal to the comics.
I mean, they didn't even have the courage to go full cosmic in TDW or have the movie end with Thor and Jane breaking up like in the original plan, can you imagine everyone dying in the third instalment in some end of the world scenario?

I think what most people are betting on is the version where Loki frees Surtur, but then, when the core of Asgard is under attack, he, Thor and Odin find themselves allied to protect it.
In that version Odin goes missing but lives. In another story Odin dies instead and Thor becomes king.
In another story it's Thor, instead, who causes Ragnarok because he wants to break the eternal cycle of death and rebirth set by the gods of the gods, that robs Asgardians of memories and glory.

I'm still so not ok with him being in Cap 3 in a big capacity, btw. I know TWS had Black Widow, but she doesn't have her own solo films.
We'll see how they'll do Civil War. I didn't read the comics, just read what happens in them, but I know that most fans hated how the storyline was executed.
And I guess after it we'll also get Bucky becoming Captain America for a while, which I don't really care for because Steve 4 Cap 4ever.

I don't know how might feature Thanos in all of it - Loki might still be working for him, or whatever he is cooking up is to save his own skin from his wrath after his flop in The Avengers.

Seeing as I have to wait 2 years and a half for the movie I could use them to finally do a serious catch up with the comics and know what we might be in for.
