Great, Rita! I hope you remember. Even if you don't, you can share your thoughts anytime.

Well, my cousin passed away and the funeral is tomorrow , so I've been spending time with family tonight. I'm finally home, though, and ready to start my rewatch. I actually watched the episode earlier this week, but I'm going watch it again to get my thoughts down.

ETA: Part one of my ramblings.

- “I can keep you afloat. You always do.”
- Francis pouting like a two-year-old not wanting to take his medicine is literally the cutest thing EVER.
- “I’ll take my reward in advance.”
- “I would go to any lengths, Francis. Any lengths.” Mary taking care of Francis is everything.
- “Why must the fate of nations be decided in a shared bed?” – Say what you want about Liz, but she makes a good point. I always loved the way this scene looked… Elizabeth in her yellow dress, walking her big dog. Preparing for our first look at Don Carlos.
- “Why would my presence startle you? Oh, because you married my lover.” Oh, Catherine… always puzzled as to why everyone is frightened of her.
- Uh-oh, Narcisse, they are talking about the dead rat…. Your lies and manipulations are in danger of being exposed! Ah swooped in just in time.
- Lorcisse off on their honeymoon.
- Oh, Don Carlos, you are a smooth talker.
- Dudley doesn’t like the flirtation between Liz and Don Carlos. Not one bit.
- Frary and Charles meeting with the military council. Love how Francis encouraged his brother. Despite his condition, he was determined to make a show of strength, and regain the supply route for Scotland and for Mary.
- “I won’t waste this opportunity to protect you.” Oh, Francis.
- The rare scene between Greer and Bash! I liked seeing them work together. And I loved seeing big brother Bash start to drag Charles out of the pub.
- Bash is feeling what Delphine is feeling. Nope… still don’t care about her.

Part two:

- More Elizabeth/Dudley angst. Of course he doesn’t want her to marry Don Carlos. He believes that Liz can sway the nobles to love her as he does. Liz had Amy followed and knows just how dangerous she is. Maybe it was doomed from the start, but I enjoyed these two and wanted to see more of them. It was nice to see Dudley fighting for them after Liz tried to end their affair. “You are my queen, but in this, I will not obey you. I will never give up on us.”
- Narcisse is acting shady and Lola is suspicious. Typical.
- Dudley sending his wife away… does he think she is just going to accept it? I think he underestimates just how crazy Amy is.
- Francis giving Charles a swordfighting lesson. I wish had gotten more of these brother moments – more scenes with Bash, Francis and Charles together. “Being king’s a performance.” That little smile at Mary.
- Catherine strides into the courtyard to lay down some hard truths. The ships they sent to Scotland were sunk and they could have been spared, if only they had gone to her for advice. Francis and Mary are still giving her attitude, but Catherine throws it right back: “Would you really have cared where the intelligence came from if it had saved your precious supply route? I didn't think so.”
- “I hope your wings are strong, you vulture. You will be circling for quite some time.” Such a strong line! Leaving Nicholas alone to steal Mary's letter and the cipher...
- “Get ready to charm darling.” Adjust dress to highlight cleavage, turn and SMILE. Best moment of the entire episode. Catherine and Claude are such a great mother/daughter duo.
- Megan’s comedic timing in this scene is perfection. “She's dead.” - “Of course she is.”

Part three:

- Letting Nicholas intercept and decode that fake letter to Marie de Guise, sending English troops in the wrong direction. Pretty clever.
- Elizabeth is not happy about being outsmarted by Mary again. She’s ready to accept Don Carlos’ proposal.
- Run back to England Nicholas… I would not want to face Liz if I were you right now.
- Oh, Lola. You are right to fear your husband’s ambitions. This is the man you married… for better or for worse. A man who tricks a peasant out of his lands.
- Don Carlos asking Elizabeth to lift up her skirt, show him her “womanhood” and prove she’s not a man. How insulting. It’s crazy to think that those rumors ACTUALLY existed – it wasn’t just a “Reign” twist.
- Dudley admitting to his wife that loves Elizabeth. Then he almost chokes Amy to death… and promises to stop the affair with Liz out of guilt. OY. Stop going back and forth, Robert. You’re giving me whiplash.
- Detective Bash off to find the nuns who perform “exorcisms of the iron cross.” Sounds unpleasant.
- Brothers out riding together. I needed to see more of big brother Francis. Poor Charles seeing his king fall from his horse. The kid is so scared, and convinced that he is not ready to be king – no matter how much Francis reassures him.
- Francis asking Mary to lay beside him in his final moments. “I love you. And I thank God for the time we've had.”

Part four (thanks for sticking with me, folks):

- Ah I love this Catcisse scene! Catherine is practically giddy that she figured out the story behind the rat, and she is relishing the fact she knows him so well. She states the one thing that made it so tempting for me to root for this ship: “You and I are so very alike.” I always felt like these two had so much in common. Their cunning, their ambition, their fear of being vulnerable, their brokenness. Sure, you can argue about which one of them was MORE broken or which one had purer motives, but it was always entertaining to see them play off of each other.
- Catherine warning Narcisse that he will get bored with his young bride and come back to her. Such confidence and sass. “I loathe you.” - “Because you know I'm right. I'm also a hell of a lot more fun.” And you gotta love watching Catherine walk away.
- You have to admire Elizabeth’s choice not to marry. She doesn’t want to be ruled by any man. “I will show England their leader is fierce and brilliant and strong.” Even if this choice leaves her vulnerable to Mary…. “Then it will be the challenge of my life not to kill her.”
- Charles commanding Bash to take Delphine to heal Francis.
- Nostradamus’ vision becoming real. Frary talking about their future and their children. “It's such a beautiful dream.”
- “If the price is my life for his, I will give it.” Oh, Mary. I love seeing how much you love Francis.
- Mary is so happy when Francis is revived. Beautiful.
- AND apparently the price is the life of Marie de Guise…

Good night, my lovelies. Can't wait to see what everyone else thought.

your cousin? That's horrible A young person, right?

I did forget to watch yesterday and so far today I have this:

I wish we could see more of Mary taking care of/nurse Francis.

Lola knew Narcisse belonged to Catherine! Catherine knows him so well.

Francis is amazing pretending to be strong (and Toby, playing two states at the same time.) I love the little frown lines between his eyebrows

Charles and Bash, that is another sibling relationship I would have wanted to see more of

Dudley can be rather childish

Bash's bridal carry!

It was just one year they were married! I hate this bit, it's making me cry

Thanks, Rita. Yeah, it was unexpected. She was 53 (one of my older cousins), but still too young. What makes it hard is that she has two grandbabies. It's been a long couple days, but it was nice to have a chance to spend time with family. We seriously need to get together more often for happier occasions.

Back to the episode...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Rita. I think we are in agreement.

It was so nice to see Mary nursing/caring for Francis in this episode. After everything that happened in Season 2, I just needed to see the depth of her love for him. Enough to sacrifice her own life for his.

Yep, even Lola knows that Narcisse belonged to Catherine. Poor girl is so scared. It's too bad that Narcisse thought he needed to use that fear to manipulate her into marrying him.

Toby's performance never ceases to amaze me. He's just brilliant. Despite the physical pain and weakness Francis is experiencing, he manages to be strong for his country and for the people he loves.

I would have loved to see more of all of the Valois sibling relationships, tbh.

I agree, Dudley can act rather childishly. He wants to have his cake and eat it, too. He doesn't want to accept the reality of his situation. He doesn't want Liz to marry anyone else, yet he can't offer her anything more than a dangerous affair. He says that he'll never give up on his relationship with Elizabeth, but then the second he feels guilty about hurting his wife, he tells Amy that he'll stop it. Just figure your *** out, Robert!

The ending always gets to me. Frary deserved the beautiful future that they dreamed about.

Whoo dorry it's so late. Had to stay later at work than I thought.

Narcisse makes me so angry with the whole rat thing. Like I don't even like Lola and I still hate him for doing that. But almost worth it for Catherine'a talking rat comment.

Kids not going to Catherine dir advise...and paying the price again

Oh Don Carlos...honestly wtf?

Delphine....why couldn't you just have died in this episode and left us all alone. Worst character in Reign history. I'm so bored and annoyed. She serves no purpose at all.

Unecessary pre death, death is still unecessary.

Catherine showing off her best qualities...first up top...then down below.

Imagine having to fly to Toronto and get all gussied up just to have a 5 second death scene with no lines tossed in at the end of an episode.

Oh, we totally understand, Amanda. Better late than never.

Yeah, it was Narcisse being impatient and insecure. If he had any faith at all in the love that he and Lola shared, he wouldn't have felt the need to manipulate her with fear and essentially trap her into marrying him under false pretenses. It wasn't loving.

"Your rat spoke to you? A talking rat? Now I am interested."

I mean, I get why it's still hard for Francis to trust Catherine, but... if you want her to be regent one day and secure your brother's rule, then you have to trust her at some point. She's a valuable weapon. Use her for goodness sake!

Agreed. SO MUCH.

As a Francis and Frary fan, I guess I have every right to complain about the cruelty of bringing him back from the dead only to kill him off again in the next episode. It was awful. Would I have appreciated a few more episodes before Francis left for good? Sure. However, looking at the big picture, I like how they showed all the different parts of Nostradamus' visions come true. And as sad as it is, I like that fact that Francis' fate couldn't be changed. Or rather... the choices Francis made out of love for Mary couldn't be changed.

And thank GOD for that.

Well, she did do the voiceover work for the letters as well, but yeah... it seems like a lot for just a short scene. It's cool that they showed us Marie de Guise's death rather than just telling us, though.
