Everyone is happy...to bad it didn't last.

Catherine being a cute, adorable, overbearing mama bear / wanting grandbabies...this must be renaissance version of handing your kid some lube and turning on some Barry White.

Oh hai Nosty

"My Golden Child"

Listen to your mama Francis she knows what she's....ooops never mind there they go...damn those petals....Catherines face OMG poor baby.

Francis don't ditch the guards...didn't she just say...Francis the guards...don't....oh Francis wtf!

Sexy times in the woods.

Oops where's Mary?

.....aaaaaaannnnndddd there's the effing tree....you feel crunchy now don't you Francis? You just know right there he thought "well f-u-c-k me mom was right"

Fight scene feels like it takes 2 hours when you know what's coming.

Bravo Addie on the tears.

Drama shot. Note: The scenery was downright goegeous in this episode. Art.

Nope....nope...nope....Oh Bash...Oh Catherine.... "speak to me"

And the scene that murdered an entire fandom

No words. This was so well done.

"let go and hold on to me"

I can't....

The funeral

Mary gives Catherine the crown

"I thought I wanted this back"

The flashback

Matherine feels explosion.....

Excuse me while I go die again....

Alright. Get ready for the flagrant abuse of the smilie.

First, I'll just say that I agree with all of your thoughts, Amanda. Bracing myself for an explosion of Frary and Matherine feels. God help me.

As usual I'm going to split up my thoughts into a few parts... bare with me.

- Mary's prayers of gratitude... so short-lived. "Every time you walk into a room, you fill my heart with such joy."

- Mary backlit like an angel in a white robe....
"You are so beautiful. If you could see what I see." ~ I'm quite happy with my view."

- Oh, Lord. Delphine. Yes, Bash... the woman saved your brother's life, but she also performed a creepy "binding" ritual on you without your consent. By all means, ask her to stay at the castle. I bet the ritual to "unbind" the two of you is going to be tons of fun.

- A formal offer of peace from Elizabeth. They were so close...

- Aww Mama Catherine so excited to redecorate and prepare for grandbabies.

"I would never want to ascend to power if it meant losing you. For what is France without my Francis?" The way she loving strokes his face. So precious.

- Frary sailing. GOD it's so beautiful. All of a sudden Francis is an expert sailer.

- "You are my most precious possession. Our marriage, our life together." "You are my home. France is my home." WHY couldn't they have their miraculous second chance.

- NOSTY is back! An ruining things with more of his visions and that damn tree. The threat has not passed.

- Frary signing the accord with England.... too bad it couldn't last.

- AND here's a SUPER creepy ritual. Delphine almost drowning Bash... how romantic.

Part 2

- This Francis/Catherine scene. God part of me wants to scream at him to listen to his mother and be safe. But I simply can't blame him for wanting to live his life, for refusing to be caged...even in a cage built with love.

- Francis FINALLY seems to understand that his mother's actions have always been motivated by her love and devotion to her children.

- "I shouldn't have favorites. But you, my golden child, I can't lose you." Oh, the look on her face. Poor Catherine.

- Francis impulsiving wisking Mary away to Paris to go dancing in the Louvre really is the sweetest thing. Catherine is right... he has changed. So different from the boy in the pilot who tried so hard to silence his heart and let his head rule. MARY changed him.

- "It appears I must be going." Aww. Frary running hand in hand to the carriage. The girl with the flowers... and Catherine sees the ominous fallen petals.

- "I always knew we would be wed." Memories of feathers...falling from nowhere. GOD, how perfect is it that they throwback to THAT scene from the pilot.

- The way Francis winces when Mary uses the word "fated."

- AND they're leaving their guards. Mary's coy smile and little lipbite would entice anyone to go skinny dipping.

- TOGETHER WE'RE GOLDEN!!!! I love this scene so much. So playful and free. Stealing kisses as they undress each other on the shore. Splashing each other in the water. Making love under the trees. They are so blissfuly happy.

- Oh... and we interrupt Frary perfection for more of CSI Bash, Delphine and the "Jar of Hearts" killer.

- Aww sleepy Francis just waking up. His smile as he looks up at her. And their final kiss here on earth. No, Mary... Don't go off alone!

- Delphine connected to a serial killer... and passing out. It's nice that she's helping Bash out, but I just don't understand why he's so enamoured with her????

- Francis looking for Mary. Another shot of shirtless Toby... Thanks for that.

- OH NO, MARY! And Francis sees the tree. Such a gorgeous shot. The fear and awe in his eyes... he knows exactly what is going to happen. But he doesn't let that stop him from running to Mary's side.

- "We were meant to be happy, and we were, but..." I will NEVER be over this. My Francis is so noble, brave and selfless in his final moments.

- "I see such beauty. Such beauty you have brought me."

- "I will never. I will never love anyone the way I love you." No you won't, Mary. No you won't. The moment Francis passes, you can see the air being knocked out of Mary's lungs. AND THE TEARS. My God, the waterfall of tears. Thank you, Toby and Ade, for making me emotionally unstable. Bravo.

Part 3 (this is it, I promise )

- "What is it? Speak to me." The second scene in this episode that completely destroyed me. Bash can barely get the words out.

- Oh goodness. The way Mary is still clinging to Francis' hand. The way Catherine silences the guard with one hand, gathers all of her strength, and goes straight to Mary. "Let go and hold onto me." Mary calling his name as they carry him away. MATHERINE.

- For such an emotionally draining scene... the cinematography in the clearing really is stunning. I love the way this entire scene was shot.

- "I have been left with nothing!" Adelaide deserves EVERY award for her perfomance in this scene. It's truely brilliant and heartbreaking. And that SCREAM - like a wounded animal. Haunting.

- And now the funeral. I don't remember seeing Bash put Francis' crown and sword on top of the coffin before.... probably because my eyes were blinded by tears.

- "We were supposed to dance under the stars."

- It makes me sad that we don't see Charles and Claude at Francis' funeral.

- Narcisse telling Mary that it wasn't Elizabeth who did this... Now Mary is an easy target.

- Oh, Nosty, why couldn't you stay?! Don't leave Catherine when she needs you the most. One final prophecy - Catherine will need Mary's help.

- "I am no longer the queen of France."

- Mary giving the crown back to Catherine. "I thought I wanted this back."

- "I don't blame you child." ""Your love it gave him so much joy."

- Throwback to Francis' line in 1x09 - "You are so strong. So strong." Oh, thank GOD for Matherine.

- Mary sailing on her own.

Thanks for sharing this journey with me again, everyone. I've never grieved so entirely for a television character before Francis... and it still hurts. But knowing how it all ends - that he is reunited with the love of his life for all eternity - THAT makes this episode even more beautiful and hopeful.

I think the problem with Francis not listening to Catherine was not simply that he didn't listen, but that he so purposely went to the extreame in defying her. Like okay...go to Paris...but why did he have to leave the carraige or at least why leave the guards behind? Way to prove a point Francis. And also, it always bothered me that Catherine didn't also tell Mary. Because we all know Mary never would have agreed to leaving if she'd known there was even a chance.

^ Yes, it will.

^ ^ I guess I just don't see any of Francis' choices in this episode as purposely defying Catherine. He wasn't being malicious. He didn't knowingly putting himself into grave danger just to prove a point, or stick it to his mother and her prophecy. OF COURSE, he intended to be careful - for the people he loved and the people who loved him. But when he saw the opportunity to spend a few precious hours alone with the woman he loves, he seized it. If your wife suggested that you go skinny-dipping, would you turn her down? Or invite the guards to come along? He was simply a young man (boy, really) who had just cheated death and been a given a "miraculous second chance." Like Mary, he didn't want to waste a moment of it. The world had suddenly come alive for him in a way it never had before, and he didn't want to be kept from it. In hindsight, we know that Catherine was right. But if you were Francis, would you have believed her? Maybe he sensed deep down that the prophecy was true, but he was in denial. And how could he possibly have known that his fate would come for him so fast?

It reminds me of the pilot, when Francis expressed his jealousy of Bash, because "They don't worry about him dying so much that they don't let him live."

It certainly would have been different if Mary had known that the threat of the prophecy had not passed. Maybe Catherine just didn't have a good oppotunity to tell Mary before they left? Or maybe she was trying to spare Mary all of the worry until they knew more? I can't think of any good reason why she wouldn't have told her, and gone to her for help in protecting Francis.

I wasn't saying it was malicious....just stupid.

He says he'll be careful and immediately ditches his guards and his carraige to frolic in the woods. I mean, come on.

And coming so close to death already he should have seen the fact that Nosty's visions really meant something. Its just seemed nonsensical to me. Like, I feel like they should have made it less easily avoidable for me to not feel like it was a cop out. It all boiled down to Francis simply tjinking his mother was being silly.....after everything that happened.....smh

I think Catherine didn't really know what to expect and when till she's seen the petals and by then, it was too late to tell Mary anything, they were leaving.

^ I think you're right. Maybe it was just too late to let Mary know.

First, it wasn't just a meaningless frolic in the woods, it was Francis living his life - free of fear. Maybe taking that risk was reckless, but it wasn't stupid. The fact that he had come so close to death before means he knew that it could all be over in an instant. It would make it all the more important for him to cherish every moment. I simply can't blame him for that. I don't think he thought Catherine was silly, he just didn't want to accept that the prophecy was true.

Again, hindsight is 20/20. On the surface, it looks like his death could have been easily avoidable if they had just stayed in the carriage or kept the guards with them. But Nosty's latest visions were pretty abstract and vague. All they knew for sure was that it was ominous. It's kind of hard to avoid danger if you have no idea when or where it's coming from - unless you try to lock yourself away forever.

That is all to say that Francis' fate was avoidable. Nosty basically told Mary in Season 1 that once they were joined...his fate couldn't be changed. Perhaps that was point of resurrecting him one week, only to have him die again the next. Who's to say that if they had stayed in the carriage, the assassins wouldn't have followed them to Paris and found a way to get to them there? Maybe if they had stayed in the castle, Francis would have slipped and hit his head, bringing the same result. All the smartest, safest choices in the world can't put off death indefinitely. Even if you don't believe in fate or divine providence, MAYBE it was simply Francis' time to go. And at least he died heroically protecting the woman he loved. My cousin passed away two weeks ago at the age of 53 from what they think was a brain aneurysm. Her husband found her sitting in her chair. She was here one minute, gone the next. You never know. All you can do is love and appreciate the people in your life while you still have them with you.

Wow, sorry for rambling. Feel free to ignore me.

She knew he was leaving and that he still didn't beleive her. And she could have easily sent someone after him once she saw the petals.

That's true. If Catherine wanted to stop them, she could have. She must have thought that she needed to let her golden child go.

Hi everyone. Amanda and I have been discussing the Season 3 rewatches. We have not been getting as much participation as we had hoped. Maybe one or two people besides us mods actually post comments on the episodes. It would help us out if you could respond here with any changes we could make to the format that might get more people interested in joining us.

Are people not excited about Season 3? Should we move on to different episodes?

Would it work better for people if we switched to a different night than Thursday?

Should we try to go back to a set hour where we all rewatch together?

If we decide not to continue the rewatches, what other board events would you be interested in? Trivia games? Mad Libs? Guess the screencap? Another survivor?
