They were written a little after the show. The pilot episode aired in October 2013, and the first book was released in September 2014.

According to Mikayla, Sheila and Rachel, the storyline of the first novel is not pleasing for Francis/Frary fans, so I never gave it a chance. I trust their judgement. But if the books have some good Kennash and Catherine...I might change my mind.

Rita, I can't really tell you many specifics seeing as I haven't read the book. I would skim through the comments here on this thread if you want real reviews. A lot of the readers here who are Francis/Frary fans thought it was pretty terrible, unfortunately. All I know is that Francis "chooses" Lola in one scene. It was just something totally unexpected and ridiculous and NOT Francis. I heard there are good Kennash scenes, though.
