Whoops, I could have sworn I changed it. The promo is right now.

ETA: I won't be able to watch live tonight. My mom just got taken into surgery to put a pacemaker in. I'll be at the hospital, but I promise to get caught up here ASAP.

Thanks, Amanda. I think she will be. She's already looking and feeling better. It's just a bit of a shock.

Hope you all enjoy the episode. I still might be able to watch later tonight.

Here's a pretty comprehensive recap Reign Recap 5/5/17: Season 4 Episode 11 "Dead of Night11 | Celeb Dirty Laundry

I watched this live last night and I don't even know where to start with my thoughts on this episode, it was insane. I'm going to re-watch it later today.

That Valois family dinner...there is family drama and then there is family drama. That one took the cake I love Henri but he is a little jerk.

Narcisse is back to stinking, I hate that he's going against Catherine and Charles while basically telling Catherine "too bad so sad, you don't have any power so deal." (I feel like that was tonight's theme in a way...no matter what title a woman holds, she'll always be at the mercy of a man.) Hope Catherine and her magic or whatever the heck that was gets all of them.

Nice to see Claude and Luc again, I seriously hope he's not an ass like his dad and his a truly good guy. We need one on this show in a sea or so many jerks.

Narcisse and Darnley take the jerk prize this episode. Just when I think Darnley's trying to be that good guy, he ups his dysfunction by literally threatening to behead the mother of his child while she's pregnant. How nice. This was the first time I was actually scared of him...I almost wondered there for a second if they were going to domestic abuse route. Glad they didn't at least in the physical sense.

It's still sad though because while he thinks he doesn't have power, he truly does because he's Mary's husband and a man. It doesn't matter how victorious she was thwarting his plan to blackmail her into the crown matrimonial or then saving her own life when he was going to have Elizabeth behead her...he still wins since he's the man and can now use their child against her.

Oh the dysfunction.

I did love that scene where she tore up the crown matrimonial, Catherine would have been proud.

I appreciate Reign's version of Bothwell. He seems to be written as the kick ass romantic hero instead of how history portays him. I loved when he snarked at Gideon and then also kicked Lord Barrett's butt when he was mean to Rizzio and insulted Mary

Overall thought it was a great episode even if I felt like drinking during it

My sentiments exactly. So I FINALLY got to watch the episode. Other than a few of the men letting me down, it was pretty good.

That's really a running theme throughout the series.

Scotland
- Oh, Darnley. Everything at the beginning was so promising. He was working so well with Mary to plan the coup against Elizabeth. But he just HAD to bring up the crown matrimonial again. I think he started "trying" for Mary's sake and for their child, but his selfish ambition won over. I was actually scared of him for the first time, too. I can't believe he ACTUALLY threatened the life of his wife, queen, and the mother of his unborn child - to allow her to be beheaded. Just... WOW. And then when Mary thwarted his plan, he tried to backtrack and "apologize" like a coward. But threatening to use their own child against Mary to ruin her - that takes that cake. UGH.
- Loved the scene when Mary tore up the crown matrimonial. When Mary told Darnley that they would NEVER be equals, I couldn't help but think of Frary. Catherine in 1x08 saying that Mary was Francis's "equal in every way." Francis in 2x03 at their coronation, declaring that, “We do greater things when we act as one, when we trust each other as equals." They truly were equals.
- Rizzio continues to be awesome.
- Given the circumstances, I completely understand why Mary had to send for Bothwell now. He certainly was her romantic knight in shining armor in this episode, and I enjoyed it. He risked his life for her, and that shows a lot. It's hard for me to trust him (given history), but he really does seem sincere. It was fun to see him working with Rizzio, and I'm really glad that Mary has him to protect her.

France
- Catherine fighting for Charles (and for the entire Valois line) was amazing. Seeing her perform that black magic spell still has me shook.
- Ugh, Narcisse. Come on! Henri might be stronger and bolder, but how can you so easily give up on Charles and turn against Catherine.
- Love watching Henri, but... yeah, he's a stinker. I mean, he was downright cruel to Charles.
- That family dinner. Oh my the dysfunction and awkwardness. Poor Luc tries to compliment the soup and then all hell breaks loose.
- It was so nice to see Claude and Luc again. Their scene together was really sweet and hopeful. They aren't in love... yet.

England
- Oh, Gideon. The moment you promised Mary that you would keep the Catholic coup attempt against Elizabeth a secret, I KNEW that you were going to tell Liz. I understand that his loyalty (and now his love) belongs to Elizabeth. I'm just annoyed.
- I did feel sorry for Elizabeth, though. She finally decides to risk everything for true happiness and NOT marry a man she doesn't love, and then she learns that that is impossible.

I'm not ready to trust Bothwell knowing the history. Not sure if they will go for accuracy on that or not, but if they so he is a horrible human being so IDK.

Aa much as I enjoyed Mary tearing up that paper...I think that was a mistake. Not saying she should have signed it because obviously that's a bad idea, but I think she should have been more tactful. That only served to piss him off and make things worse. She should have at least made him think he had a chance of earning his place. Shutting him down completely and giving him no hope makes him dangerous. Now he has nothing to lose.

Catherine should have been smarter. She should know better than to mess with that stuff and we know that it will likely bite her in the ass later. I can only hope it will take a few people down with her.

Narcisse is an ass, pure and simple. Hasn't changed a bit. Losing Lola did nothing to make him a better person.

Gideon ia a moron. He had no reason to rat Mary out. He may as well have just signed her death warrant. How does he just stop caring about her so quickly. Like I get that he moved on, but that was cold. Another instance of Mary should have listened to Catherine. She did tell her never to trust him...and what did she go and do?

Notdoneabusingyou - same same same. starting with Bothwell, it doesn't ring true to make him perfect guy while in history he wasn't.
Mery's young but she should never hurt her husband's ego so much. Hey, what about some tactics? Darnley wasn't such a terrible character, if Francis came back, Mary would sleep with him too. Because, king has mistresses, it shouldn't be such a shock. I get she was hurt but ever since she acted irresponsibly, not giving him chances and making it easier for him to hate her. She definitely says and acts too much and too soon. Have you heard about diplomacy, Mary? There was a brilliant scene when Claude was introduced between her and Narcisse. What he told her about not hurting men's pride was brilliant.
Narcisse hasn't changed and now we can imagine why Ade wasn't happy about Catherine's ending. I wanted Catnisse because they're literally murderous, power-hungry power with lots of chemistry. But do what Catherine say! I kind of liked that Lola's death didn't change him. In real life sometimes it doesn't. He is who he is. Always will be. He won't be fixed.
Henri is rather interesting character.
I like the progression of Luc & Claude and them not falling in love right away but being good partners.

Only watched it once so far:
First impressions-
Scotland
Mary's story is going downhill fast. I thought when I saw the promo pictures (the one with them together on the balcony) was after another tragedy, but no it was when they were actually working together. Now she really has no where to go.

England
I have always hated this Gideon SL. And my feelings haven't changed.

France
Narcisse in this episode makes the decision his character always makes. He backs the horse he thinks is going to win. But at least he tells Catherine he is changing horses, which I think is a testament to their relationship as it is now.

They have set up the character of Luc to be either the saint we know him as OR the scoundrel who has everyone fooled because he is so good.

Finally, Catherine argues with everyone using her best persuasive ways and again no one listens. But this time she does something about it instead of just yelling at them for not listening. Oh I know, it is not going to end well, but the Catherine they have set up doesn't just argue, she goes into action.

Overall [except for England] characters were intriguing and not working out of context just to fit a SL, which is not always the case with this show.

I was missing Francis big time in this episode. To go from a loving marriage to this abusive one is so sad I remember how crazy happy Francis was when he found out she was pregnant...and how she finally gets to have a child and it's with a man threatening to kill them both. So so sad.

bold: literally... that*s me EVERY week speaking and hoping that we will get enough good Catherine stuff...sadly, mostly I am disappointed. Althought I love that Catherine's a cool sexy witch now and that language and that spell... awww that's my queen

About Narcisse... Narcisse will sadly always be Narcisse! That snake will never change!
