MARY FINDS HERSELF FALLING FOR GIDEON — Mary (Adelaide Kane) struggles to resist her feelings for Gideon (Ben Geurens) as she works to align herself politically with potential allies. Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) and Greer (Celina Sinden) find themselves in similar heart-wrenching situations with the potential for very different outcomes. Catherine (Megan Follows) and Narcisse (Craig Parker) continue their vicious power struggle over the Regency, while Claude (Rose Williams) finds herself in the fight of her life on her wedding night. Anna Popplewell, Torrance Coombs, Charlie Carrick and Jonathan Keltz also star. Megan Follows directed the episode written by P.K. Simmons (#310).

I feel like the fighting training that Leith was giving her may come in handy. I have no idea, but I feel like there was a reason...especially given the episode summary.

kerbear28 01-20-2016 09:38 PM

I think you could be right, Robin.

ParkDundee 01-21-2016 08:46 AM

That would be sweet. Perhaps she'll deck Narcisse (one can always dream).

De Medici Queen 01-21-2016 08:47 AM

THIS PART: Megan Follows directed the episode :thud: :thud: :thud: :sigh:

kerbear28 01-21-2016 07:44 PM

I'm sure Megan did a phenomenal job. :woot:

Here's what I know so far...

1. So I guess that Mary/Gideon kiss twice...the first time to convince a spy that Mary has fallen for him, and the second time is "real." :bawl: I just... I can't accept it. It's too soon and I'M NOT READY. Please GOD let this be over soon. I've tried to be cool about this but my heart is breaking.

2. Claude is married. :bawl: And when her new husband tried to hit her, she TOTALLY beat him up. YOU GO GIRL!

3. Charles apparently told off the privy council and now Catherine is regent! :yay:

drunkalice 01-22-2016 02:42 AM

Oh lord, Mary, why? *rolls eyes forever*
The other spoilers are great, can't wait to watch!

kerbear28 01-22-2016 05:31 AM

I'm trying not to be upset about Mary until I watch the whole episode. Unfortuntately, I have seen vines of the kisses on twitter and they seem...good. :( No matter what the context, seeing Mary kiss anyone but Francis is just painful. :(

But, yes, the other spoilers look amazing!

drunkalice 01-22-2016 06:27 AM

I've been thinking about it and maybe I'm just too trusting in the writers' intelligence, cleverness and accuracy, but... What if we are exactly meant to think Mary's declarations of undying love aren't to be trusted? What if we're supposed to see how volatile she actually is?
On the other hand, though, Francis practically used his last words to beg her to love again, so maybe we're just meant to give her a free pass as usual.

De Medici Queen 01-22-2016 11:46 AM

The spoilers.... not sure how I feel about it but I believe that actually in the episode happens much more than from what we know in the spoilers, I mean there must be more exciting and interesting things than only Mary and Gideon kissing because that's pretty much all the few posters were talking about

I saw that clip and not sure how I feel about it... they are still not interesting to me as a couple!

YAY for Catherine becoming Regent!

And YAY for Cleith!

I can't believe we didn't find out who the killer is :thud: and I want to know what actually happens to Narcisse and how his reaction is after he finds out Catherine is Regent

obisgirl 01-22-2016 07:08 PM

Congrats to Megan in her directorial debut.

I'm not a fan of Claude (I find her very irritating most of the time), but I'm really proud of her for hitting back against her new husband. You go, girl!

And then, the reveal that Catherine paid the man to hit Claude, so Catherine would become Regent. Wow. I hope Claude never forgives her.

De Medici Queen 01-22-2016 07:26 PM

I don't get why some think it's so bad, she saved Claude from a man who would treat her awfully... she had no time to think about better ways to bring her back to castle, take down Narcisse and help Mary stay in France and not return to Scotland.

In the end they are all save now, Cleith is happy together, Mary is in France and doesn't have to fear Narcisse.

Megan did an amazing job. So proud of her!

And yay for Catherine being Regent, FINALLY!

So proud of Claude too, she fought that bastard  you go girl!

Also, Megan's daughter Lyla was in this episode.. she played Greers sister who will take care of her baby.

The pirate is back :thud: wow

BTW it returns in SPRING :yay: not summer!

obisgirl 01-22-2016 07:51 PM

No, but just think about how badly that could have gone down is Claude did not know how to defend herself? That could have ended very badly.

I think regardless of the outcome, I would be shocked if Claude isn't mad or furious at her mother for what she did. Catherine's just lucky, now.

kerbear28 01-22-2016 07:52 PM

Well I think Megan did an incredible job in her directorial debut! It was another fast paced episode, but everything flowed very well and was nicely shot.

Now to the episode itself... SO MUCH GOING ON! :thud:

Some random thoughts:

Elizabeth's storyline was so sad. :( Sure, seeing her hide her pregnancy was a little creepy, but... Lola just gets done telling Liz that her son is the joy of her life and she has a miscarriage because she's poisoned. And she STILL is not able to be with the man she loves. :( Poor girl. Who do you think is behind the poisoning? I'm glad she did the right thing and sent Gideon's daughter, Agatha, to France to be with her father. So I take it that Lola's family is still being held hostage? I wonder if we'll get more Liz/Lola interactions. I enjoyed their scenes.

CLEITH!!!! Oh my goodness it was amazing. Claude's wedding to the Duke was so so sad, and everything looked hopeless. Leith was so sad that Claude was married and was drowning his sorrows at Greer's tavern. :( It was so heartbreaking to see that his faith in love was faltering. I adore that Greer comforted him, though. For a moment, it looked like they have switched perspectives on love. Now Greer is the romantic again.

I was cheering so loudly when Claude's husband tried to hit her and she LAID HIM OUT. :yay: :high_five: Such an awesome scene: "I AM A PRINCESS!" I was so thrilled that Charles had the marriage annulled and then.... Leith proposed!!!! :thud: It was the sweetest thing. He promised to raise in station so he could marry her, and she believes he will.   Thank GOD. I don't think I could stand seeing Leith hurting...AGAIN.

CATHERINE IS REGENT!!!!!! :yay: :woot: It's about time! So it took seeing Claude injured to realize that Narcisse can't be trusted? Regardless, I'm thrilled that he finally woke up and helped his mother regain power. Also, it was nice to see the Bash/Charles scene...even if it was brief. In the end, we learn that Catherine was responsible for hiring the Duke to marry Claude and mistreat her. It sounds very twisted, but I understand she only did it to protect her daughter from being forced into a horrible marriage. Plus, it got Charles to see the truth, so... I'm not angry about it. I'm sure that Claude's ultimate safety was a part of the deal.

Ok, so Mary and Gideon. Ugh. I still don't know what to think. I was thrilled that Mary shut him down at the end, and it seemed pretty firm. However, the only reason she gave him was that they can't love each other if their countries are enemies (okay...) and maybe it's just me anticipating the worst, but she seemed to enjoy their kisses. And I can't trust these writers enough to believe it's truly over. We'll just have to see. It just seems too familiar... a dark-haired court outsider who helps Mary and ends up falling in love with her. Can you blame me for being nervous? Plus, I'm bitter that "Mideon" got a wet/rain kiss and Frary didn't. I, for one, am not giving Mary a "free pass" just because Francis begged her to love again as he took his dying breath. She said she would never love anyone the way she loves Francis, and I am going to hold her to that.

ETA: I forgot Greer's story! Martin the Pirate is back! She is planning to give up her baby to her sister. :( I love that she wants to remain close to her child and teach him or her what is really important. And her sister was played by Megan's daughter Lyla! She's very pretty and did a great job. :D

AND REIGN IS BACK IN THE SPRING! :yay:

That would have been THE BEST! I really wanted Mary to deck him when he was "banishing" her. I was like someone needs to put him in his place!!!!

Thank goodness Charles eventually did. With the secret help from his mother, of course. When he was in the privy council meeting, I was like ohhh she was behind this...She knew he would react this way. And we had seen in the previews the hooded meeting in the woods, when that started to happen I knew she was giving him back the gold. :nono: Oh Catherine...she means well but goes about such an odd way of doing things. I don't think Claude will find out, and if she did, I'm not sure she'd care...she'd be angry of course, but hey she has what she wanted now - her freedom not to be forced into a marriage.

I had no idea that Megan's daughter was in tonight's episode until I read it here. That is really cool that she had the chance to do that. Megan did an excellent job directing. I think it is really sweet what Greer's sister is doing. I like how Greer put her in her place though and explained why, and how she wanted it to be. Greer will make a good "aunt."

Back to Claude - Yay for Cleith! How sweet was Leith's proposal. "I will rise in station..." Sounds a little familiar, since he said something similar to Greer. He'll make it happen...and the sweetest part is Claude believes in him.

I don't dislike Gideon. I feel like he has been a pawn in Elizabeth's game. Mary is clever, and knows how to "act." I was somewhat bothered by their kiss...but as long as it was "fake" I was not bothered as much as I could have been. The second one, I wasn't bothered by because HE initiated it, and she shut it down. I honestly do not think there is any interest there....but like Keri said these writers cannot be trusted...so I don't know.

Elizabeth's story-line didn't bore me as much as usual tonight. I think her adviser guy is the one that poisoned her...The one that almost drank the tea for himself. Dudley wouldn't have done it, because obviously that was his child. He does love her, and it is just an impossible situation for those two. Thanks Amy...

Ok Major revelation I am having to share here. The "adviser" of Elizabeth's is named William, and played by Tom Everett Scott, aka the young "Tom Hanks" lookalike from the movie "That Thing you Do!" I cannot believe I didn't realize this sooner! The only reason I discovered it now was because I was looking up something on imdb about the episode from tonight.

I'm highly afraid of losing this long post. So I'm just going to post it now. Hope that is all of my thoughts.

ETA: ok Tom Everett Scott has been in lot of things since That Thing You Do, even other shows on the CW in fact (much to my surprise).
