I am not a fan of 2x01 mostly because I had such big hopes for S2 and it disappointed me more with each episode.. thanks god this changed in S3. Really.. compared to first episode in S3 and the pilot 2x01 is terrible

I agree that the pilot and 3x01 were better than 2x01. But, I actually didn't think 2x01 was that bad. Even though Frary was separated, we got to see them thinking about each other. We got to see Francis' first moments as a father. Seeing him hold his son was just And the Mary/Catherine dynamic was really intriguing in this episode.
However, Season 2 as a whole was a big disappointment. I'm really glad the writing improved in Season 3. __________________

You know what I didn't get... in this ep Mary didn't wanna kill one guy to have a deal with the grain and such, but then in the end she did end up condemning a man to die by the plague.

Yeah, that doesn't seem morally consistent, does it. While Mary is very idealistic, she is also very young and makes extremely rash decisions. I think one of the main themes of this episode was that there are no clean, easy solutions when you're running a country.
