KING CHARLES IX

Charles is the King of France, having ascended to the throne after the death of his brother, Francis. Despite being early into his reign, he's already rocked by scandals, murders, kidnappings, and the fight over who is his regent until he becomes of age. Once a boy who loved his family and trusts his mother, he's starting to see the cruel and harsh reality of politics and rule. After suffering trauma at the hands of the Red Knights hell bent on ending the Valois line, Charles returned from his kidnapping changed and damaged. He's removed his mother, Catherine de Medici, from the role of regent and has since gotten the council to declare him of age to rule on his own. But is he truly ready? Or will his trauma and distrust be the cause of his downfall?

SPENCER MACPHERSON

Spencer MacPherson (born 12 June 1997) is a teen actor, most known for his work as Hunter Hollingsworth on the Degrassi TV series. He joins Reign in Season 3 as an aged-up recast in the role of Prince Charles, replacing Peter Dacunha from Season 1.

i figured it was time for our little charlie boy prince to get a thread

i love that charles is close to his mother, it's cute and it makes sense from how that relationship was in season 1

i'm curious to see where they plan to take his character

i do like that he does have a good head on his shoulders and a love for his family, which played counterpoint to Catherine's argument about killing all the Bourbons, even babies, because they're threats since baby John and Bash would be threats too by that logic and Charles wouldn't kill them

I'm still not so sure about him being as good as everybody thinks

I feel like this will change a lot and this was just a beginning to make us believe he's the good guy. I'm sure his desire for power is bigger than we all think and he's capable of more things that Francis ever was. He's just too young

But I love the actor! And yea, I'm really curious to see more of him!

Oh I'm sure he has desire for power and he's probably not as fully good as he may want to be but I do think his love for his family is the real deal, everything else may not be.

I mean looking at things historically, clearly Charles will have to change in order for him to be the person to allow what he did let happen during his reign and he will likely be heeding more of Catherine's way of thinking

In that way, Charles is more like Catherine than he probably wants to admit right now - and even Catherine is all about her family so I think Charles is that way too

He's also a moody teenager tho, and prone to fickle thoughts of what he thinks is right and wrong, he might think one way and change into something else the next - I mean, he's going through puberty and all, teens change their minds so much

And as it is said, he's also impressionable, he's probably going to go from one way to another for a while, this process will repeat until he grows up, and even then, it's not surprising if he is like Catherine as historically she was such a huge influence on him as a young King given his age and the fact that he was in her presence longer than in anyone else's

Yes, I love that Charles was courageous enough to go to Francis and admit what had happened. And I was proud of Narcisse for getting through to him. There may be hope for him yet.

He's definitely Henry and Catherine's son, though. The situation was a lot like Henry's dead duchess in Dirty Laundry.
