I hate how people are telling now she is not a good mother to Francis after she slept with Narcisse while Francis is 'dying'! After ONE scene they completely forget everything she has done for him in season 1! It just makes me angry

I always thought she sucked as a mother to be honest. Yes, they are things that she has done to protect him...but that doesn't make mother of the year! And YES, sleeping with Narcisse while her son was dying was ridiculous and the old Catherine wuld have never done it.

She's not the mother of the year, obviously not. But she IS a good mother. Let's just think of how terrible Mary's mother - Marie de Guise - is!

IMO the mother figure is what's making Catherine's character interesting.
She was trying to kill Mary - a young girl she used to love as a child - only to save Francis' life, she stayed in France to save her boys even if she knew she will die if she stayed!

I agree, S1 Catherine would have never done what C did in 2x17!

She's definitely not the usual mother that you see on the street. She's overly protective of her children, even if it means she would make the rest of the world suffer. That's not a good thing, but it does make her character interesting, that's what I always loved about her and Antoine because I think they're similar in a way that they will do anything to protect their family and their blood.

The usual mothers also don't have sons who are to be Kings, sons who have so much enemies.. they don't have to fear for their children's future like Catherine had to.

I think she would've been overprotective of her children no matter who they are

I feel so sad, because in real life, Catherine de Medici outlived all her children (except two) it must be heartbreaking to see your family die before your eyes.
That scee with Narcisse was annoying I agree

I'll always remember the words of a man who lost his son years ago and said to me "There is no greater pain then to outlive one of one of your children" it must have been very hard for her!
