Hope you had a great weekend, too, Sherry! Mine was a lot like yours. It was pretty laidback. I always leave my Christmas decorations up through the Feast of the Epiphany (which is today), but I did take down my Christmas tree. I was not as productive as I wanted to be, but I did do laundry and go grocery shopping. Also, yesterday was my dad's birthday, so I got to hang out with my family and celebrate that.

what does the Feast of the Epiphany celebrate?

Well, it principally celebrates the coming of the three kings /magi /wise men to adore the Christ child. But, in general, it celebrates Jesus being revealed as God incarnate - specifically to the Gentiles. Ok, so that's the liturgical lesson of the day.

It's a feast in the Catholic Church, but I'm not sure if it's celebrated in other Christian churches. I'm not surprised you haven't heard of it before.

Well I'm sure plenty of practicing Catholics might not have heard of it, either.

I've heard of it from my grandmother. She would always leave her nativity set out until then. I actually went to Catholic school, but I don't remember it being mentioned at school (I might have not been paying attention ) I go to a non-denominational Christian church now and I've never heard it mentioned there.

I suppose that could have to do with where you live. The church in some parts of the world might make a bigger deal out it than others. Even though it's a solemnity, it's not a huge EVENT like Christmas or Easter. Plus, if you were in school you might have been on break when it was celebrated.
Does anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend? I'm going to go help babysit about 20 or so kids at a retreat on Saturday. I'm tired already. __________________

We are expecting ice and snow tomorrow, so I'll probably be staying in at least the first part of the weekend. My kids are thrilled because school has already been cancelled for tomorrow and they get off Monday for MLK day, so it's a 4 day weekend now.

There have been delayed starts and school cancellations around here, too. How fun for the kids!

That's the way I like it, too.
My weekend was a fairly busy one. I helped babysit for about 25 kids during a retreat at my church for a few hours on Saturday. I have a big year-end mailing for work that I want to go out this week, so I was working on getting that ready this weekend, too. Oh, and I went to a soup supper at church, too. Hopefully next weekend will be a little more laid back. __________________
