different question - what was the point of having Francis "recognize" or "acknowledge" the Frola baby as his? It doesn't put the baby in the line of succession or anything.

He hasn't exactly hid them. MAry asked him to go Scotland with her. He's made it quite obvious since the first episode, it's MAry who played koi until boom come with me!

The Frola baby isn't legitimized, he's recognized (I think that's the word). I re-watched E2 and E3 - the baby is given the Valois name, a christening, and given a title and lands (baron). At the end of E2 Mary seemed to think that recognizing the baby would provide him with some protection.

Bash was never recognized by his father, even though everyone knew he was the King's bastard. I assume that's why he's a De Poiters and not a Valois. He was given a lame title and maybe land(?) when he was forced to marry Kenna.


I think Mary could have done some real good if she had actually gone back to Scotland at some point during her marriage to Francis (historically speaking), but I don't think she'll ever get there on the show while Francis is alive. ... which for continuity sake shouldn't be that difficult to get out of France. Wasn't it less than a day's ride to the coast where Mary/Francis met up with Charles' future bride Madeline?

Is Bash really a De Poitiers though ? When Lola was looking for a husband and find Julien, Mary said "He could give your child a name." which means that Lola couldn't give her baby her name because she's a woman. So I think Bash is "nameless" now, since he wasn't recognized and he can't take his mother's name.

I am just surprised that Mary asked Conde to go to Scotland. It's like de ja vu to season one when she ran off with Bash to go to Scotland. The only difference is this time she asked Conde and her and Bash just happened to be leaving at the same time and he decided to go with her to protect her.

I just don't understand why they had to copy the Bash/Mary sl instead of coming up with something original for Conde/Mary.
