I wonder how the show would have gone if they'd pursued the Kim/Patrick relationship beyond the island. It might have been an interesting twist Patrick as the one who is in a relationship and Lisbon finally realizing she's in love with him.

I don't think it'd be a twist considering Jane had more romantic interests than Lisbon ever did, and Lisbon's feeling were much more clearer than Jane's for a long time. I preferred the way they took, it erased the one-sidedness.

I'm not convinced that Lisbon was as aware of her feelings as Jane was of his. I think Lisbon convinced herself that what she felt was just friendship - although part of that might have been because Jane was so good at keeping distance.

I think Jane knew exactly how he felt about Lisbon, but felt he was too dangerous for her to be with and that he was too focused to give her the time she deserves. I think he knew his own feelings as early as the beginnings of season 5 - or maybe even late in season 4. Kim was a desperate - and half-hearted - attempt to purge Lisbon from his soul.
