One of my other favorites was Malcolm McDowell as Bret Stiles. I loved him in his younger years and in this role he was deliciously creepy.

He was good funny reed diamond played on bones too i said i wanted him dead on mentalist they skinned him alive on bones i liked his character on bones

He's also on Designated Survivor. His character there is hard to figure out. Could be a good guy - or not.

There's so many I could go with for this, but I'm going to say Xander Berkeley. I think he pulled off the double act of McAllister (the mask) and Red John (the sociopath underneath) perfectly.
There's a subtle moment during the church showdown scene in 6.08 'Red John' that I adore. Just after RJ says 'who are you to butt in here and make obnoxious judgements about me?', Xander sort of straightens his back and raises his head. It's so subtle but it's one of those moments that just really sold it for me - THIS is the guy who murdered anyone who dared to insult or question him, the ego laid bare. It felt like an empty sociopath who puts himself on a pedestal being called out on exactly what he is, once all the self aggrandising mythology is stripped away. Bravo! *shivers* |

Xander was certainly amazing. I didn't start watching until early season 6, so I had to go back and catch up, which thankfully I did before the RJ reveal. When I watched S1E2 I immediately suspected that McAllister was Red John. He just creeped me out, even though he was a sheriff.
