Thanks for the relaunch.

Mentalist features a lot of corrupt law enforcement officers, and we have one in this episode in the name of Kyle, a ranger who killed a woman and attempted to violate her companion. Over the years I was somehow conditioned to feel a little suspicious of those officiers when I watched the show on TV.



A young and green Van Pelt got emotional when interviewing the victim's parents, a side of hers less and less to be seen over the rest of the series.



Jane's unconventional way of investigation would time and again put him at loggerhead with old school police officers, in this episode we have sheriff Nelson who got fed up with the ideas of Jane at some point of time.

Sheriff: I'll mind my business, you mind yours, whatever the heck it is.

I wonder if it is the only episode where we get to see Jane's family in his flashback...



It was fun to see Jane played a little trick and lured the officer away from the ward he was supposed to be guarding.



Rigsby had been depicted as food loving from the start, so much so that he would be delighted to find perhaps a ketchup packet when the snacks had been cleaned out.



Jane got a praise from Cho after the case is closed. It was rare for Jane to get praised from the team even when he closed case after case, maybe he was just causing too much trouble for them at the same time.

Good point. Maybe it's human nature that we tend to take things for granted.

I do think that part of the reason is that they were usually a little upset with him for his unorthodox methods. Cho especially I think was torn between being pleased with Jane's success at solving cases, but also exasperated at the messes Jane often caused in solving them.

I guess sometimes they loved him as much as they hated him.

I have to admit, this was never a favorite of mine. But seeing everyone else's posts, I've found new reasons to appreciate it.

I think this was the first episode where we saw Lisbon in real jeopardy. Even though he's only on the phone with her, it's interesting to witness Jane's reaction to that.

Sometimes it's hard to remember that by the time of the first season, Jane and Lisbon had already been working together for five years. I have to remind myself that it's not like Jane was reacting like that after just meeting Lisbon. I suspect the CBI team were the only people Jane associated with for most of those five years - he probably didn't have any friends outside of that job. So it's not surprising if he would develop strong feelings for them, and especially for Lisbon, who has been there for the entire five years.
