After he got taken by the Soviets and turned into Winter Soldier. And then they took Natasha and started the Black Widow training with young girls. WS basically trained her to be what she is. And they had an affair and it was found out and they were separated. Until now.
From the comics. The movie alluded to their past. They talked about "Odesa" that they fought. She is the ONLY to to get away. Which implies he let her. Because that's impossible. He is the best assassin to every assassin. He let her go for some reason. So it's alluded that they have a past. We'll just see if they do anything more in the movies. __________________
