I believe that there are many misconceptions concerning who the Targaryens were, their place in Westeros, and the overblown idea that literally half of them were insane.

This is not the case, just as not all of the Starks were known for their honor, the Lannisters as ruthless politicians, or the Baratheons for being unparalleled warriors.

The Targaryens receive the most scrutiny simply because they were the first Sovereign House, whose dynasty lasted for nearly three centuries. The dragons they used for the conquest lasted for 150 years, and the Targaryens lasted another 150 years without them.

However, even with all of this history behind the royal family, it's important to consider what a new dynasty headed by Jon and Dany would look like. This would not only be a House of just modern Targaryen values, but modern Stark values as well.
