I don't think it's anyone's fault, it's just why GOT is so brutal. It's also a lot about blood and sex.

to GRRM's protection, the rape scene of Sansa by Ramsay wasn't in the books even because they're not written yet.

It shouldn't need this though, this is the one reason why I prefer LOTR or Shannarah over GOT in terms of general storyline (no matter if book, show or film).
