And my mentor wants me to take over full responsibility on teaching the next 9 days at least, maybe more. This was my first day teaching all day, so I'm going from teaching 1 class every now and then to teaching all 4 classes all day, every day.

I will be continuing graduate school and teaching full-time; maybe think that isn't such a great idea now.

Could handle just 1 class on top of full-time job I think. Hopefully!

Nope, because since it is December, may be rare since it is the middle of the school year. So I'll substitute until Fall probably. Unless I get lucky; but will start job hunting in November probably.

We have lots of drills at my school tomorrow because 9/11 and need to prepare for emergencies.

They've been scaring kids with drills since the 50's, 60's? Poor kids.
I think if someone is hellbent on hurting people, there's not much that will get in their way, unfortunately.

Yeah, tomorrow we will do a fire drill, lockdown drill, storm/bad weather drill, and probably forgetting one. It interrupts teaching time too. I understand practicing procedures but got an email that lockdown will not be announced from the office but someone else. So we have to keep our ears perked up. Yesterday we had a staff development on safety on a scenario of an active shooter. Such a deep topic to talk about and serious - had invited police officers to talk to us too.

So what did they say that can be shared with the general public? I think most of our school shootings have been done by kids who attend the schools, so they're very familiar with the logistics of school lockdowns, I think.

I'm not sure I'm allowed to say anything, but shouldn't be more different than other schools and mainly common sense stuff.

Last night in the news they were running a news bit on how to survive an active shooting at a theater, restaurant, and mall.
I think that's why I had trouble sleeping.

That is less secure I feel. At least the school has classrooms. Such open spaces at the mall, theatre, and restaurant. And nobody allowed inside school without permission.

I read the book about the Columbine shootings. The two killers were initially going to blow up parts of the school with their homemade bombs and then shoot at the kids who were running out of the cafeteria. Fortunately, try as they might, those bombs never set off.
Some people are just natural born monsters -all they think about all the time is making others suffer. What a disgraceful existence!

Yeah, due to that incident, the police officers said it changed their procedures a bit.
