Also, Coulson said Fitz added some sort of protective magnetic shield on the cage after after her "scare".

This pretty much adds to the headcannon that Fitz has become 1983123% more protective over Simmons since 1x06. Not that he thinks she can't take care of herself, but he's probably just afraid of losing her again. Watching your best friend jump out of a plane probably does that to a person.
