I think after Coulson's speech to her, she felt the need to tell Coulson about her & Ward.

And she did a pretty good job of flying the Bus in that raging storm.

Which is good because they've gotten a lot of flak by always not revealing anything significant every episode. You can't please everyone.

Some people will always complain about the show because it's not Weekly Superheroes.

But I think TPTB understood pretty fast that their best shot at keeping the audience around was delving more into the mythology and I hope things will keep improving. Not all the episodes can have a jaw-dropper but I'm glad they moved away from the procedural case-of-the-week format and are giving us more overall plot and backstory.

Yeah, that's true. And a little sad.

I think showrunners in general just fear serialised drama because they think they'd risk losing the general audience (not the hardcore Marvel fans). Like if too much of what they were doing was something only the comic book fans would understand, for example. So appeasing the comic book fans and keeping the general audience interested is something they need to get down, and I believe it's the only show that has to do that right now. I think a balance between case-of-the-week and mythology is probably what they're aiming for. As well as character development, naturally.
