Cosima is quite taken by Delphine ... This is her life, this is her heart, this is a person who could be quite important to her.

I think Cosima is kind of surprised by her feelings for Delphine. It's the kind of attraction, and need, that blinds her ... Her attraction and feelings are undeniable to her, even though it might be dangerous.

Their relationship is really something I connect to quite deeply because of the sort of the imperfection of it and the betrayal in it and it -- it just feels very real to have fallen for somebody who you knew kind of the whole time would be the wrong person to fall for. I feel like that’s quite a human thing and it was written quite beautifully.

Cosima's so focused on her work that it can get quite insular and she can get quite lonely and have a one-track mind. When she meets Delphine, her world blows up and she doesn't know how to even deal with the emotions she's feeling and how much she wants Delphine.

They're on opposite ends of the equation, sort of like Romeo and Juliet. There remains tension between them, but ultimately they love each other.

She made some really clear symbolic moves. I mean, at the end of S1 she travels and goes on Cosima's side ... that's a true act of love and it's a true act of solidarity.

Delphine is a passionate girl when it comes to science and Cosima.

There is definitely a really intense passion and love between those two characters ... It's so many things at once. It's lovers, it's co-workers, eventually there is going to be a patient/doctor relationship. Experiment/scientist. It's so much, you know. It makes it so rich.

Thanks for the lovely new thread!

The flashback to the end of S1 was so beautiful. I loved hearing Delphine articulate what she loves about Cosima, and OMG Ebro brought so much passion to those scenes.

I'm also glad if the writers feel they've finally resolved the "question" of Delphine's loyalty, although I hardly thought it was necessary at this point.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed in Cosima's side of things, though. We heard so movingly what Delphine loves about Cos, but what about the other way around? I want to hear Cosima say why she loves D, praise what she admires in her, THANK HER for once for risking her career, her ambitions, her very life for Cosima and all her sisters. Delphine deserves more than just acceptance.

I'm rewatching episode 5 and I think my favorite thing is Delphine's look of wonder and joy when Cosima's shirt comes off in the otherwise super-serious S1 flashback.

It wasn't, and that's exactly why I was frustrated with this flashback. It showed us nothing we didn't already know, I wanted a love declaration now, from both of them, after everything they've been through. Not something from back when they barely knew each other and Cosima didn't even answer, she just kept repeating back everything Delphine said, it was annoying. Not to mention the editing of the scene was awful, I actually like the gifs more than the scene itself, because some cuts were just very weird. I feel bad, cause I know everyone loved it and I wanted to love it too, but I was disappointed, specially because I don't expect much more of them from now on

Ju, oh man I'm sorry you were disappointed by it.

I didn't really go in with any expectations and I loved the 1x10 scene. The only thing I didn't care for was the "consent" resolution (whilst I don't fully agree with this post, it still raises a valid point) and on a shallow note, the editing during the second kiss; which I really would have liked to have seen in it's entirety because omg.

Oh absolutely same here!! My favourite moment too.

Even if it's only a glimpse it showed the joy they find in being intimate together. It isn't all just about a desperate passion borne from dire straits which has been kinda their thing. They make each other happy when they can.

cosima has had plenty of say in their relationship, and in her own life, so let's not.

oh and let's not forget cosima kept plenty of stuff from delphine in s3. so.

I don't think how the moment was written was done particularity well. Aside from that as far as I'm concerned Cosima exercised her own consent in saying YES when she didn't have to at all.

I think that since this show is so much about body autonomy, the use of the word "consent" was intentional and specific. It IS icky in a way, but it's also lovely in that it shows a lot of trust. No matter what women consent to--whether it's sex, childbirth, marriage, power of attorney, shared parenting, daycare, etc.--they give up something. The circumstances of this story create such great metaphors for the issues and choices women face in daily life.

I liked that Delphine and Cosima actually had a whole romantic conversation that ended in consent. That never happens on TV (outside the soapy "are you sure" conversations I really dislike) and often doesn't even happen in real life. There can be no assumptions here anymore; Delphine asked explicitly for what she wanted and got a "yes." I think that was a big part of the point. Given the job she does and the position they're both in, Delphine has to make decisions that sometimes subvert Cosima's autonomy. Some questions that brings up are...Is that ever OK? Can Cosima agree to that? Is relinquishing control worth it to her, or does her need for control trump her desire for Delphine? Where do Cosima's needs end and Delphine's begin? Is that a hard line, or is it fuzzy?

I think it's noteworthy too how this plays out when it's two women vs. a man/woman. I suspect I'd be A LOT less accepting here if Delphine were a man because I'd inherently view this as the woman (again) subverting her choices for the man. But because it's two women, they fill a truly equal space, and I (we...the audience) can view the questions without a lot of baggage. For me, that's super interesting too.

That was the weirdest thing to me, along with another shot where she was kissing Cosima's neck and it actually looked like Cosima was in pain or something. I wish we could've seen the whole thing at once, but they always need to cut everything in a way that makes no sense

Did she even believe any of Delphine's promises, though, ever? I mean, she made that beautiful promise, then on season 2 she made an even bigger promise, then on season 3 she had to reaffirm the season 2 promise, and now on season 5 she again made the same promise she did on that flashback. That's so much promising, and yeah it's beautiful and obviously she has kept all her promises and been nothing but 100% devoted to Cosima, but what bothers me is how much Cosima STILL doubted her even in this very episode. It made me sad, really. And her season 3 behavior is even worse to me now after all this, makes even less sense. I just hate how this was written. It wasn't necessary at all, we already knew where Delphine's loyalties lied, we already knew they had sex that night. If they wanted to give us a flashback, why not in a different setting, like lying in bed together, having dinner at home or something, and talking about those things? It would have a been a new moment, something we hadn't seen of them. Their 1x10 scenes were already perfect, there was no need to add anything there.

It's just really the use of the word consent that's troublesome because it sound so terribly icky on the face of things. I don't think how the moment was written was done particularity well.

That whole dialogue was so poorly written, imo

He does, though. That's been a running theme, though I'm not sure we really understood it until this season. I mean...PT and his minions have been driving wedges between women all over the place: Sarah/Mrs. S, Sarah/Kira, Rachel/Susan, Rachel/the other clones, Coady/Susan, Delphine/Cosima, Helena/everybody. His goal in telling Cosima right there at dinner that Delphine had told him Cosima had been in the basement was to create more distrust between them. He's had all these women spying on each other and distrusting each other for decades. I think Cosima finally realized what was going on and that a big way to defy PT/Neolution was to trust Delphine.

I agree with you that Cosima's mistrust early in this episode was sad. I thought that in the first ep too when Delphine comes into the yurt clearly happy and so relieved to see Cosima, and Cosima doesn't gush about how much she's missed her; she just accuses, "I thought you were dead." I get why Cosima has been suspicious, and I love Cosima as much as anyone, but she's treated Delphine badly many times over the run of the show. Is Delphine being taken advantage of, or is she very forgiving and understanding? I think it's the latter and that she feels guilty for lying to Cosima at the beginning. But Cosima being mean to Delphine and not trusting her is totally in character. That's part of who Cosima is, and grudge-holding is probably one of Cosima's flaws. I really liked Delphine being irritated when Cosima gave her crap about not telling her about Kira immediately. It's like...right, Cosima. Slow your roll. She's been back for five minutes and there's a ton of stuff to say!
