Scott: The barcode gene? That's the one we use for species differentiation.
Cosima: Is it?
Scott: What's in it for me?
Cosima: Um, how about you get to have sex ... with yourself.

Cosima: Well, I may have a monitor dilemma of my own. I'm new here this semester. I didn't bring
anybody with me, but someone wants to ... be friends.
Sarah: Just stay away from them, Cos. Stick to the science, yeah?
Cosima: "Stick to the science"? What am I, the geek monkey, now?

Sarah: If somebody's trying to get close to you, just stay away.
Cosima: Right, the old "do as I say, not as I do."

Sarah: Beth's partner found the German -- or at least part of her.
Cosima: Part of her?
Sarah: Yeah, I messed up when I buried her. They have a fingerprint, Cosima.
Cosima: Oh, wait, are you being Beth right now?
Sarah: Pretending to be a bloody cop, so I need to know if the bloody fingerprints will flag a bloody match!
Cosima: Whoa! Okay, okay, don't freak out! They'd need to use Interpol to find the German, which is
unlikely, but if one of us had a criminal record here ... do you have a criminal record?
Sarah: Just petty fraud, assault, whatever. Wasted youth, all right? If the body matches me, the cops will
see a mugshot of somebody who looks like Beth, only it's yours truly, and I'm already supposed to be dead.
Cosima: Wow. Wow, welcome to the trip, man.
Sarah: That is not helpful.
Cosima: Yeah, okay, sorry. Just don't bolt, okay?

Cosima: Sarah, I so should've listened to you about Delphine. I --
Sarah: You're all right.

Sarah: A career at the Dyad Institute.
Cosima: Yeah, studying us.
Alison: What are you going to do, Cosima?
Cosima: Well, we have to know our own biology. That's what this is all about, right? Maybe I can
help us best from the inside.

It is but it's also SO in character for Cosima. She acts on her emotions before she acts on common sense/intelligence. In that regard she has never been more consistent. She just wanted to help the poor guy, comfort him, and apologise for almost shooting him, and also apologise for the situation he's in even if that's not her a responsibility that should fall to her. I love Cosima for that. I'm glad that Yanis was granted one fleeting moment of empathy and kindness before he died.

Well she's had some. She's finally accepting Delphine/trusting her and it's better late than never.

I'm not really sure what you would have liked to have seen Cosima do in this moment. I'm glad she tried to comfort him even if she made a "mistake" in entering the cage.

Not sure that character development would be a good thing in this case.

On the one hand it is totally in character--both her compassion in going to Yanis and her recklessness--and that's part of why I love her (usually). But on the other hand I do think she can/should have learned some caution by now! From the beginning Cosima has treated DYAD/Neolution like a joke, not a threat to be taken seriously--from her "cheekiness" with Leekie to her casualness about bringing Shay to the lab to her behavior now with Westmorland. I would have thought that all that has happened, especially episode 4x06, when Kendall Malone was killed in front of her and she was told Delphine was dead, would have convinced her that the stakes are real and these people aren't to be toyed with. Not saying she shouldn't continue to be passionate or that she shouldn't defy Neolution--she's promised to defy them and she should. But sometimes it helps to have a plan!

I don't mind that she went into the cage to help Yanis--confronted with his suffering, rushing in to help him was the right thing for Cosima. But I do mind that she rushed off to "stop" Westmorland without any sort of plan for how to do so. Especially given that she knew Delphine was already working on a plan that would be endangered by Cosima's rash action.

Cosima has a great big heart and that is wonderful. But she has a big brain as well, and sometimes I'd like to see her make more use of it!

You make a good point. Everything she's done is in character, but she should be more scared of PT and Neolution than she is.
