^ I wanted to share my pain.
Ugh the implication of all those faceless clones behind the ones we KNOW are dead hurt me even more. __________________

Me too. I'm sooooo incredibly against human cloning, after watching this show. Those unknown clones hurt me too, along with the Charlotte clones who "just didn't make it." According to Aisha Porter-Christie (per her entry on the BBCAmerica blog for this episode), Kuwait is currently pushing to enact a mandatory DNA sampling law. I've heard many such fears about sharing DNA on sites that serve as the real-world versions of the company that allowed Felix to find his half-sister Adele, and can't help but wonder what my insurance company would do with the same info. It's really scary to think about just how much a single strand of my DNA (think of it as the binary code, without the complexity of the matching genome) means to me and my entire family. When I magnify that under the lens of "this could have been me times 1,000" it starts to feel like my own life is just as tenuous as... a girl wearing hajib in Afganistan, or a girl who is a refugee from Syria. Because that's just how cheap life can become, if we let it, and OB has taught me to "live deep," which, I hope, means that as precious as my life is, no-one's life is cheap -- especially my own?!? So I keep crying and hoping for strength like Sarah. Last edited by hopeless romantic; 08-01-2017 at 05:08 PM |

I know I'm belaboring this point, but I've been really troubled in recent years by the growing acceptance of torture in our society (by "our" I mean the US. I know many of you are from other countries and it may be different for you). I know of course that OB is fiction, but the stories we choose to tell reflect our lives and our values. Ever since the Bush administration made torture official US practice following 9/11, it's been more and more prevalent in movies and tv. It used to be something that "good guys" wouldn't stoop to; now it's pretty much the go-to tactic when info is needed. Despite the fact that our military leaders tell us that torture actually is not effective and often yields false info. It's harder to argue in real life that our soldiers shouldn't abuse "enemy combatants" and our police shouldn't rough up suspects when we constantly see fictional stories in which torture is the answer, and when audiences want villains not just to be defeated/killed but to suffer great physical torment. So it sets me off a bit when I see people saying "He didn't suffer enough" and rooting for the torturous deaths of TV antagonists. And now I will stop ranting about this and go back to wondering how it is that EBro manages to get more beautiful in each new season of the show |

Um, no. When I say I'm frustrated with a villain's death I definitely don't mean I wanted to see a torture scene. I just mean I wanted to feel like there was justice. And that feeling of justice can happen or not depending on how the storyline leading to that villain's death was written and executed. I can only speak for myself, though. To me, it just didn't work.

Yeah Ferdinand had already been kicked to the curb he could have just gone.
Speaking of characters that have disappeared tho (not that I care really) but where is Mud or the Messenger? I thought we'd seem them again with PT, but apparently not? __________________

The messenger just leaves me ?????? he seemed the most loyal to PT was all over Revival (and interrupting cophine omg) and he just vanishes? I know OB likes to drop characters at the drop of a hat, but this one's ridiculous. __________________

I got that her name was meaningful (on a show with Ledas, Castors, and Rachels, who couldn't wonder if "my name is Mud" wasn't an omen) but seeing her talk about just how negative her value was of herself (yes, that means "I have negative value points, as in, I'm worth less alive that I should be worth as a dead person") kinda killed my ability to dislike her, since I know visiting that feeling, even though I've never been a drug addict. Her seeing the person who saved her from being a junkie as "her own personal Jesus" is simply psychology 101. But no, we haven't seen The Messenger lately. Maybe the members of Club Neo killed him. Maybe P.T. killed him. Maybe he offed himself. Does his absence really matter from the larger plot? |
