When I visited the set of the show recently, I asked Barr to describe his character and he replied, “I like to consider him a treasure hunter for hire. He deals on the black market, mainly in supernatural armaments, and kind of gets pulled into this world through his connection with Jenny. He sort of had a little romantic history with Jenny. He’s a nomad, who bounces in and out of cities.”

Sleepy Hollow writer/producer Albert Kim said Hawley was “kind of like a Han Solo; a scoundrel. He's a guy who's been profiting off the supernatural all this time because he sells artifacts and things. But until he got to Sleepy Hollow, he didn't necessarily believe in them. He has a line, I think in [episode] 205, where he says, ‘You don't have to believe in Santa Claus to sell Christmas trees.’ So that's kind of his attitude towards the whole thing, but then his eye are opened when he comes here, especially when he starts hanging out with Crane and Abbie and he starts seeing what they're seeing. So his attitude shifts in that regard, but he's very grounded. He starts out with a very mercenary attitude, but the more he gets involved with our characters, other priorities start to take hold.”

I don't have much of an opinion of him yet but I enjoyed him a bit in the last episode so/so.

I hated him over the summer, love him now. I hated Reyes too, love her now. The cast is really getting better and better. I expected Nick to be an ass, but he's a good guy and I hope he becomes full time cast. I hope Abbie gives it to him on that beautiful wood table in the archives. I have such high hopes for him and Abbie. Let Katrina have Crane, he's probably bad in bed anyway.

I liked Nick's scenes in his debut episode. I'm also looking forward to learning more about him in future episodes.

I wonder if the writers are creating a new ship. I mean, they point out a loving gay couple, tell us that Crane was commissioned under and respected a well known gay general ( I think he was a general) and he proudly watched Glee, even though he hates TV. And then... we get Nick Hawty. I mean Nick Hawly.

Is this a Nickabod I see? LOL

I won't lie, even though I am an Ichabbie, the fan girl in me kept looking for subtext in every scene they had together.

I would love it if they somehow made him related to Benjamin Franklin, and then Crane can be like "No wonder I hate him... His arrogance is hereditary"

I must have seen him before, because he's had guest appearances on several shows I watch, but for some reason I never made a note of him.

Hawley was introduced in Monday’s episode when Ichabod and Abbie sought out his help to obtain a mysterious coin, forged from the silver Judas was paid to betray Jesus, that can compromise the loyalties of its holder.

His entrance into the unrest in Sleepy Hollow sparks an almost immediate rivalry with Ichabod, whose cultured nature clashes with Hawley’s laid-back attitude.

“Hawley is very much the cowboy, while Crane is the refined British aristocrat,” Barr said. “That causes a fun and funny dynamic between the two of us.”

Ichabod may see it a bit more harshly. In Monday’s episode, he described a growing hatred for Hawley, whose “arrogance is matched only by his annoyance.”

A similar friction will arise between Hawley and Abbie, although their opposition may have a much different outcome.

“He and Abbie are like salt and vinegar, which creates a bit of chemistry,” Barr said, coyly. “You’re always attracted to things that challenge you.”

Whether they like it not, Barr said that Ichabod and Abbie will keep finding reasons to pull Hawley in on the action.

“He becomes part of their Scooby Doo gang,” Barr said. “I think Abbie and Crane would love to get rid of him but they just can’t seem to. They realize they need Hawley.”

The scruff is up there definitely. But something about his hair is just so awesome.

So glad Nick was allowed to have a personality because he went from eh alright to holy amazaballs attractive in like a scene or two.
